crap out by if possession.. found out by the old school.. ‘Arsenal Lite’ - now we’re trying to recreate that without even having players who can play those positions.. the replacements for injured players aren’t up to scratch.

I’m close to thinking wtf can we do with the players we have too, but then we’ve only lost three who played all last season and two who came at Christmas. We did well before Archer and Ramsey came so surely we can get a competitive side replacing Stefan, Giles and Akpom with Dieng, O’Brien and Greenwood.

Alot of clutching at straws here.
If coulson is now the answer we are screwed and crooks is far to slow to play holding midfield.
Its the regular championship players who are letting us down through the middle of the park and most people are keeping these players in their preferred teams.
Crooks, Howson, Hackney, obrien, lenihan and fry.
And sonny finch isn't the answer either. If rogers and greenwood aren't ready why will he be.

The team are letting each other down from the defence to the strikers and back again.
The midfield cant be held responsible if the team moves up, leaves a huge gap between them and defence and the opposition take up the space.
We need a settled back line and dig in - even if it means battling for draws and one-nils, instead of expansive forward - flying football. [For the time being].

Without Crooks, Howson, Hackney, O’Brien, Lenihan & Fry.. we would well up shyt creek!
Sonny Finch is in and around.. but not quite there. If feels like we have some players who have been mispositioned! Rogers looks similar to Tavernier, Greenwood to Bamford, O’Brien to Forshaw

Crooks is 30 this year , he is very talented , but does not have the speed of thought to play AM in a team hoping to go up .
He is a big unit at 6ft 3in , taller than our 2 1st choice centre halves.
Maybe sitting him in front of the defence would give us the physicality, and calmness needed .
Let the dicky dancers do their stuff in front of him , a modern day Bobby Murdoch .

Crooks scores goals.. there no denying it.. his contribution to the team us massively understated. Play him as a striker.

We are well up **** creek with them. My point is they are the experienced pros who should be dragging us through games they are not.
We can't replace them in the current squad they need to pull there fingers out

Jones offers pace on the break (and at one point had a great understanding with Crooks). McGree provides guile. Forss is the best finisher at the club.

To be honest the formation of 4231 will work if players stick to there roles and not run all over the place out of shape, that being said I dont think it is the best for us at the minute with this squad but then again I am struggling to pick an 11 and formation that appears correct
If the 2 holding players I.e. Howosn and O'brien where to sit and provide a barrier it will work the problem is all players are not doing there job when defending, one player closes down which leaves space to exploit opposition midfielders are constantly in behind our 2 DM's finding space, the team only appear to play when we have the ball off the ball we are a shambles and constantly scrambling around which is reminiscent of the Woodgate era...
One thing I do think we need is width so I would be obliged to get Dijksteel and Jones back on the right hand side when available and even look at a Bangura and Engel partnership down the left can one of them be more of a wide man for us, that may mean a 352 or 451 formation but we need to make the pitch bigger and get in behind full backs, we play in front of teams and never turn them round constantly trying to score the perfect goal, which when it works looks great but teams really do love playing us they have nothing to fear, nothing from set pieces it is far to easy to play against us!

I`m wondering how we can play Jones, O`Brien, Hackney and Howson across the midfield?
Maybe Howson as a CM to hold up and distribute the ball - the young uns are much quicker.
Jones could do on the right, what we had last season on the left.
He just needs to be that more forceful and not try too many tricks.
His speed compensates for that.

Definitely on Jones he has the attributes but as you say keep it simple, the more I think about it I would look to play a midfield 5 of O'brien as the holding midfielder, Jones right Hackney and Mcgree and left either of Silvera, engel, bangura but in silvera he would need to use the wing as well as cutting in with Forss upfront who appears to be our most natural finisher again just opinions you can then swap players out as you please, it just feels like the way Carrick wants to play is not best for this squad and a reluctantcy to change style / formations only ever ends one way, I'd like to think Carrick has a little bit more about him

I like it Festa , but would try Crooks CM with Hackney RM , a brick out house in front of the centre halves, you can't run through him , he is like a wall , or a tree
