Use those players with Championship Experience first

If we are going to halt this sky-dive, we could do worse than to use those tried and trusted players with Championship experience [no matter how little] and bring on the others gradually:
The likes of O`Brien, McGree, Josh, Jones, McNair, Barlaser, Crooks, Gilbert, Greenwood, Forss........
If we have to clog and block our way out of this temporary impasse - so be it.
Every time we concede, its a kick in the ballax for the whole team, the team mentality changes and we are automatically on the back-foot, needing to concede no more, score two to win and hold it there. But we havent been finishing off through balls and crosses, our mid-field has been passive and we cant defend consistently for 90 minutes.
Thats a big problem for a football team and we need instant solutions - starting against the Owls.

This isnt a blame game - but we cant [for now] continue to throw inexperience and enthusiasm against weather-worn Championship players.
I wouldnt suggest either, that Michael Carrick, the Recruitment Team or any of the other staff should be sacked - thats far too easy and will achieve nothing.

Im not a football Manager, tactician, self-appointed expert or anything other than a fan - but this is just a little worrying.
Carrick said on previous occasions, he speaks occasionally to Sir Alex.
I wouldnt mind being a listening ear on the next call - maybe this morning?

I totally agree with this and as I said on the other thread that’s what was so disappointing about that team yesterday as these key players were largely not in it.

Its heartbreaking seeing more than capable players floundering - but we have to arrest the dive.
Should have added Fry and Lenighan to that list.
Cant think of anything else at the minute Jed?

I think it is new players that are struggling, in the formation, when we’re out of possession.

it felt like we were a man light in midfield at times. We had men behind the ball when they scored, but the goal scorers had time and space.

I don’t really understand it tbh but a settled back line would be a start.

Does the central player in the front three need to track back more?

A settled back - line would certainly be a start.
Some of the newer lads need experience, but not handed a snorkel and told to swim.

Left back I’m unsure of but maybe?

GK
Smith Fry Lenighan ?
Hackney Howsen
Smith Crooks McGree
Fors

I said this after QPR and tbf it looked from the selections that maybe was what Carrick was doing. However, shoehorning O’Brien in on the left side was baffling. The full backs are a real problem, neither knows the league and no support from the forward players tracking back.

McGree simply has to start and Latte Lath needs taking out for his own benefit, if that means starting Crooks or Coburn up top so be it. Indeed I would be inclined to do a Mike Basset and go 4-4-2 with Forss and Crooks up top McGree/ Hackney/Howson & O’Brien midfield. Defence we seem to have little choice until Smith’s fit and I’ve seen nothing to suggest the two new fellas are better than Coulson, indeed they are a downgrade on Bola!

We simply don’t have the players to play the way we played last season and as much is it pains me to say it if the coaching staff don’t realise this soon they’ll be on their bikes. Another defeat on Tuesday might prove too much imho, but am at a loss at the moment to see where we then go.

3-5-2 or bust

Jones and McGree can be good feeders of the ball in to the box. (y)
Like Carrick says: attack and defending starts at both ends of the pitch.
The midfield needs to look as much behind it as in front.
Equally, the defence needs to take opportunities to move up the pitch and forwards back-tackle to stop opposing defenders.

I would be tempted to bring Hayden Coulson back into the reckoning.
