Unusual Cover Versions

BODY COUNT – “COMFORTABLY NUMB” (PINK FLOYD REWORK, ft. DAVID GILMOUR)......................never saw this one coming.

Ice-T‘s long-running rap-metal band Body Count are releasing their new album Merciless on November 22, and one of its songs is a reworked version of Pink Floyd‘s “Comfortably Numb” featuring Pink Floyd’s own David Gilmour on guitar.

Phish play Genesis "Watcher of the Skies" an early Gabriel era song.

If you only know for their contribution to ice cream then you should know that they are supremely expert musician who have in the past played the whole of Dark Side of the Moon at one of their own gigs. This is played in the presence of musicians and "Holywood A Listers" some of whom plainly have not the faintest idea of the music that they are hearing. Which tickled me. Also it is a superb rendition of a very tricky song. Enjoy (or not)

I always enjoy a good Genesis tribute. I've recommended The Musical Box on here a few times over the years. Next week I'm going to see Italian proggers The Watch do their Genesis show in Shepherds Bush.

Always amazes me that hardly anyone in the UK knows Phish, infact I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone there who knows who they are.

The whole "Jam Band" thing never really happened over here. Of course we have just seen the passing of Phil Lesh (a founder of The Grateful Dead and therefore of the whole "jam" thing) to no great note. Aside from Phish, in the past I have also enjoyed the "jammy" efforts of String Cheese Incident, Dave Matthews Band and Zac Brown Band

Yes I like Dave Matthew’s Band but I don’t know of the others or many jam bands in general. I have an American cousin who follows Phish concerts religiously, no idea how many she’s been to. Coincidentally she’s also now the drummers dentist up in Maine.
I’d of loved to have seen them at the Vegas Sphere.

This is rather lovely and gives a meaning to the song that is entirely absent from the original. Although I'm open to arguments whether this is a good thing?

LAIBACH – “STRANGE FRUIT”
