Under occupancy in the Family Zone

I sit not too far from there and have family members in there, and it’s become very apparent that despite being officially sold out and with a waiting list for people to get in that area, that people are just buying these cheap season tickets and not turning up to most of the games.

At first we thought it was the holidays, etc. but barring the opening games there’s been around 20-30 seats just left empty in that area. I counted 6 seats empty seats in a row together in the last game.

I think it was @indeedido who previously highlighted the cheapness of these tickets in that area could lead to this problem of people just buying them and if they only turn up half a dozen times they’ve lost nothing. While people who would genuinely want to go to the games have to buy tickets in expensive areas of the stadium while they wait for seats to become available.

I hope the club start monitoring ticket usage in that area, as I know other clubs like Man City and Brentford do at their respective stadiums.

Why would the club care? They've got their money.
So the staidum is full of people for better atmosphere. Extra spending in the concourse etc. I do think the club should look at making it possible to inform them your not turning up for a game so they can sell to someone else

Not sure how sold out it is, as I have bought walk up tickets to every home game this season in GRFZ

You’d think they’d care because I don’t know about anyone else but when I take the kids to the game they want a programme, food, drink, merchandise, etc. If it’s just me I don’t spend much, I claim my free drink and they might get a half time pint out of me if they’re lucky.

Empty seats generate zero additional revenue.

Six seats in a row empty could easily be a holiday/ wedding / funeral/ covid / dads are off shore etc etc
If there's 5k + empty seats every week, half should be family zone options to buy pre match day

The club have repeatedly proved they don't care about the stadium being full. The sky high prices are evidence of that. They are dreadful at managing a business. Everything about the ticketing and retail side of the business is run like a project on the Apprentice.

I am a bit puzzled too by the family section set up. I often quote a season ticket is only £480 for an adult and child renewing in there , when posters say we are the most expensive club in the Championship for families. Then they reply its sold out, but its often one third empty on match days. Also posters like Smogga say walk up tickets can be bought.

My row definitely has a lot of empty seats together and it’s been that way for most of the season, its not a one off and there are gaps all over just like in many stands at the moment.

I’m sure they’ll be back if we start winning regularly.

Also, perhaps the ‘cheapness’ of these tickets allows people who work away for most of the year to put some money in to the club and just about justify buying season cards. What isn’t easy at the moment is giving the tickets away to family members, in some part due to the lack of physical card but also due to the dreadful start 🙈

I think fans buy tickets in that end because it's free for under 11.
And possibly move to a different seat.
A lot move in the second half to sit in the North Stand

I had to move my seats on sat because Mrs concourse has an injury which means she cant get up and down the stairs and also my mate that sits with his son next to us wasn't there because said son was ill (so the seats you seen could possibly have been mine!)

You do often find clusters of seats empty but that’s probably because it’s families. If a family can’t all go then it’s going to be an empty row of 4 or 5.

I have a ticket with my brother and 2 sons, 1 son comes, the other has just turned 2 and hasn’t started coming yet (but will eventually). But I don’t see how he is taking up a seat for someone else? An adult buying that ticket would have to pay the same as they pay in the north or south stand. The matchday seats aren’t cheaper in GRFZ, it’s just that you get a free child’s season card with an adult season card.

I tried to buy 2 tickets in there for Huddersfield and was told by the ticket office the area was sold out. So I had pay £43 for two under 10s to go.

Got to my seat near the GRZ and there was loads of seats empty in the area, so much so a group of us sat together there in the 2nd half.

I don’t think you’d have got it cheaper in GRFZ. Unless you’re buying a season card. I’m not 100% on this but I don’t think you get a walk up discount.
