Unconscious Woman on Dockside Road

You would think this would be on the agenda of the Safety Advisory group, surely there is a police presence on there, the problem is, there is nobody there to record these near misses, surely this has to be a turning point now though, as it has moved from near miss to accident, so necessary action will now have to be put in place to reduce the risk.

It’s the same every single game. They used to hold the cars and the Police would actually do their job and stop cars coming down Dockside road from the opposite direction, doesn’t happen anymore and it’s incredibly dangerous. No cars should be let out until the crowd has dispersed it’s not rocket science.
It's not just cars leaving the area there are actually pillocks driving towards the ground to pick up. Don't people have legs anymore?🙄

Disgusting that anyone should get hit by a car when leaving a football match, that said, I’ve seen vehicles being allowed out of the official car parks by the stewards and have been faced by a mass of people walking on the road over Shepherdson’s Way, making no attempt to move despite there being pavements either side, Perhaps the traffic control stewards should ensure the road is clear before allowing traffic out and perhaps fans should use the footpaths provided.

Exactly what I was saying- they come the opposite way down dockside road. Many moons ago a copper was posted on the roundabout on a bike and would stop them coming down. Cleveland police need to get it sorted.

Far too many people leaving at the same time to just use the footpaths.

I think it would be more dangerous if everyone tried to cram onto the footpaths as it would be so crowded that people would occasionally be forced off and into the path of fairly fast moving traffic. Not a good plan.

Car Park E on Dockside road is closed from the end of the match until the other MFC car parks are emptied and most of the crowd is cleared. Don’t think these other (private) car parks on Dockside Road are though.

While we were excluded from the stadium because of covid the council took the opportunity to put in a footpath between the stadium and the Navi crossing along the railway side of the road, prior to this it had been a muddy grass verge. Within a few games of us getting back to the ground people picking up after a game started parking on said footpath. On one occasion I passed 2 of Cleveland's finest stood near one of these cars chatting between themselves and having a laugh whilst we all shuffled by in the road.
Time for the council and police to get a grip, access along the road between the crossing and the stadium needs to be tightly controlled. No one should be allowed to drivie into that area to pick up prior to the end of the game...............including coaches and minibuses.

I did say that the match traffic stewards should ensure that Shepherdsons Way is clear before allowing traffic to leave, if vehicles are allowed to leave sooner and fans use the road as the footpaths are packed then yes, problems will occur

Need to have a look at public transport options improved for matches, you have park and ride busses at some grounds, before and after matches they will shuttle you to designated car parks, why not our ground. When Exeter Chiefs play in Exeter the place is awash with park and ride busses ferrying people to the centre, the train station and car parks. For us there should be busses for Stockton, Billingham, Redcar and East Cleveland, the club can charge money on these tickets and would pay for themselves, people who struggle to get to the ground would have an option then.
The only option is to walk back to the centre or drive at our ground.
Is Middlehaven train station ever going to happen, any authority with a bit of get and go would have had that up and running within two years of the ground opening and a bit of liaising with the train companies so there is actually trains at night or after matches.

Northern do not even put extra carriages on their trains on match days. Just the standard two carriages.

Great shout- been saying for years the halt at the old station should've been opened years ago. Mental how many trains go past from Redcar direction alone and then have to walk from the station.

The stadium hasn't moved further away but I think people have become less patient in the quarter of a century since it was built. I drive to grounds all over the country and very rarely park any closer to a stadium than at Middlesbrough. A 15 minute walk to the car is standard. And then not expecting to be on the go before 6pm is also the norm.
I live near a primary school and in the last couple of years more and more cars park around my street. The cars now park on double yellows, on the corner of the street and for the first time are starting to overlap peoples drive ways. People need to be closer and closer to their destinations.
When we go to places like Blackburn or the West Midlands no one can drive away for half an hour after the match because the streets are closed. It isn't a unique situation at the Riverside. But the chemical works does mean that access has to be left open in case of any problems there.

A rail halt that would only be used once a fortnight would be a bit like Teesside Airport's rail halt. It would be a massive expense for limited use and as said Northern will not have rolling stock to put on extra trains. Over to the Tees Valley Mayor for sorting out the infrastructure - it is his role but then again that takes us back to the airport again does it not.

It was ridiculous on Dockside Road last night. Icy conditions and people driving about like it was a rally. Glad the lady is OK, but the amount of cars picking people up close to the stadium is becoming more and more of a problem. It's about time the council and club do something about parking around the stadium.

I normally park in the market in North Ormesby for night games and got there last night at 6:45 and only half of it was open and it was full.

I park just behind the North Stand and have done since the stadium was built. We are held back until pedestrians have cleared the area, about 20-25 minutes. I'm normally in the first three vehicles to be let out. We usually catch up with pedestrians just before the roundabout near the Medals. My vehicle is all electric so the pedestrians can't hear me coming up behind them. I have to be particularly careful until I leave that roundabout. After the roundabout the pedestrians seem to disperse.
As mentioned above, cars, taxis and minibuses make the problem worse by parking on the roundabout and the area close to it. The double yellow lines there are just for decoration.

I know what you are saying Rob about how many people use these things outside peak times but in 28 years of there being a Middlehaven station, if it had been built it probably would have attracted some other businesses into the planned redevelopment going on around there, and both the Tees airport station and the Middlehaven station as well as a rail company who cared would have attracted more passengers. They are reopening a new 14 mile rail line at Ashington with 6 new stations because they see the benefits not the expenses

It is a problem that seems to be getting worse. There are a couple of cars that drive right past the South Stand exits (literally just a couple of yards outside the stadium doors) as everyone's leaving and the drivers don't seem to care about pedestrians in their way. They look like accessible vehicles so I do have some sympathy if they are trying to pick up disabled fans, but it's only a matter of time until someone gets hit.

Then heading towards the station you constantly have drivers getting frustrated by fans in the road, even though there's a solid queue of cars 50 yards ahead so they aren't really being held up anyway.

I find it mad that we can all gather together in the stadium as one united community of fans, then try and run each other over as soon as the game ends.
