Unai Emery explains Cameron Archer plan [Birmingham Live]

I think the chances of keeping Archer are virtually nil if Villa make Europe. If not a small chance but only if we go up.

I'd be surprised if Villa sell him. I think our most realistic chance is a further loan if we are promoted as Villa will want him tested at a higher level than Championship.

Of course if he fires us to promotion they may understandably want to keep him as a squad player.

What did Tav go for? £10m plus £2.5m? Thats my guide on value for Archer.
That's a good starting point, i think they'd probably attach a strikers premium to that though. Ivan Toney went for 10 mil in total and he'd never even kicked a ball at championship level, never mind scored a goal!

I personally think this is great news for us, they will no doubt bring in a fair few players in the summer and especially if they qualify for Europe. I have no doubt they will bring in another striker and I don't see Archer or Ramsey getting much game time in the premier league with Villa. Also Archer and Ramsey have very little premier league experience so is Emry going to want to take that chance on them both, I don't think he will. I think another season at Boro regardless of which league we are in will be best for business for both teams.
That's my thinking too.

We can "gamble" on a striker with no PL experience as realistically we will be one of the favourites to go straight back down.

Villa looking to kick towards a top 4-6 finish and try to win a cup......with Archer as one of their main forwards - risky.

And then there is the small matter of FFP. £20m+ for Archer ..... business is business especially if they are looking to bring in a forward with more experience and a proven track record.

Finally, what does Archer want? Carabao Cup games and a few mins here and there, or playing every week?

Whole situation is massively up in the air.......but I would definitely make him priority #1 for summer transfers.

The longer we keep him, the better he will get and the more he will cost us.
Anybody who thinks Archer could be bought for £10m is unhinged. If we pay double that then we will still have a bargain.
It was the same nonsense about Gyokeres not being worth £15m last summer. YES he was, as he has proven again this season.

Villa will keep Archer and Ramsey as squad players, festering on the bench, if all they get is £10m offers for the likes of Archer.

This is what happens on a regular basis with young English players and foreign managers unfortunately. If Archer does get his chance he will get a few games and if he does not produce it's back to the bench or loaned out. As good as Ramsey has been for us I don't think he has what it takes as of yet to make a regular starting role in the premier league, he needs to bulk up and work on his defensive game I think before Villa or any premier league team look at him as a regular starter. I reckon in the region of 25 million for the two of them should villa decide to sell.

Don't ever get too attached to a loan player.

If Villa do decide to sell, then pretty much the whole Championship plus a significant number of Premiership teams will be interested. He will not be cheap. But if Villa make it into Europe, they may want to keep him.

I think we might need to look elsewhere for a new striker.

This is very true, I reckon we would be in pole position for him mind if he becomes available.

Also the way Carrick likes his teams to play I have no doubt we would attract a fair few players too. I'd be more concerned about the defense if I'm been honest, a ball playing centre back, a right back and possibly a keeper if Steffan goes back.

Agreed. Its also worth considering that Villa`s progress up the league has proceeded unimpeded without Archer [or Ramsey].
Clearly, Emery has his own methods and approach to the way he Manages his team. His quoted comment that he hasnt made a decision [yet] on Archer, suggests the door is open.
Wherever we find ourselves - he is definitely #1 on top of the list.

@FREETHEARCHER love it, if we do make Wembley, I wouldn't like to be up against him with that pace

True, but we also can't overlook the importance of what that player wants. He's clearly loving it here, maybe he will want to stay.

I'd be amazed if either get a good run in the side. I imagine villa will be well backed this season. So some big signings coming in.

That said it won't help getting either in on loan again. They will probably go on pre season tours with villa. Then at best be deemed surplus on transfer deadline day for a season loan.

I'd say pie in the sky to sign either on a perm. Archer will already be in the 15mil+ based on champo form alone.

That or sit in the U23s until Jan. I think Archer had around 20mins of football before he joined us. That's criminal for a lad of his ability. If we had him and Carrick from the summer we'd be champions 😂

I'd do everything we can to keep hold of this lad on a perm if we go up. It'll cost north of £20m but worst case he will retain most of that fee for the foreseeable

Archer is a Villa fan from Walsall. He will want to make it a Villa first and foremost if he can.

One good thing even if we don't get promotion and lose Archer next season is that we must surely be first in the queue for any young striking talent that other premier league clubs want to put out on loan. If you were Man Utd, City or Liverpool etc and you wanted to see how your young striking prospect stepped up to regular football at the next highest standard to the Premier League, you'd surely pick Michael Carrick's scintillating free scoring attack minded Boro to join first, wouldn't you?

Counter to that is e.g. Woody is a Boro fan from Middlesbrough but didn't stop him going off to Leeds because he thought it was best for his development.

He'll play a lot of PL football at Boro and will score a lot of goals for us.
This defeatism that we wouldn't pay £15m plus plus as a PL club is extremely small minded.
And I agree Lefty, I think he will want to play for us rather than sit on Villa's bench

The amounts that some folk on here are talking about for Archer and Ramsey makes it sound as though these young players are as good as tried and tested strikers like Rudy Gestede or Britt Assombalonga!

Get real people!
