Unacceptible "Paedo" and offensive chants / behaviour at MFC / SAFC Game

Don't think its that deep, just football fans singing daft stuff. Just shrug your shoulders and move on.
There are bigger issues within football fan culture and chanting to worry about than this. Boro fans openly singing homophobic chants about rent boys for example.

Whataboutism yet again in this thread, and it's weird to say you should shrug your shoulders about disgusting chants from the opposition and then say that Boro fans should be punished for offensive chants.

Both should be dealt with.

The rent boy chants from opposition fans are regularly getting punished now because people call it out.

6:48 there it is, and it's not just a few of them either.

Idiots on both sides.

Never understood the point in sticking your fingers up and doing the w@nker gesture at a crowd from about 30/40 feet away.

Cringing at the lads trying and failing to climb over the netting as well.

I was walking to the ground just about to enter the college grounds after the road crossing at Windward Way when the Sunderland fans departing the train were being kettled by the police to the ground.

A group of say, a couple of hundred fans (of all ages but mostly 20 - 30 years of age, shouting "pedo - pedo" towards a small group of boro teenagers and myself with my brother and my 7 year old boy.

Fortunately little smoggie didn't register the chant as offensive, not knowing what they were chanting and not asking me what it meant either.
Not good. Dont get me wrong, in the ground I give the oppo fans stick when we go a goal ahead, they miss a golden opportunity to score etc etc. I see it all as part of the banter and experience of live sport. Little smoggie giving it the "who are ya" chant is all part of the matchday experience for him and I.

But there is a line isnt there. Racist, homophobic, misogynist chants have no place. The "pedo" chants are in the same bracket.
I want my boy to enjoy healthy banter and passion when at the games. I always reign him back in if I see him expressing even the slightest hint of vitriol in his actions. It seems the parents of the Sunderland followers haven't adopted the same attitude.

It's a pretty sad indictment of the day that I was fully prepared for this behavior from them, so it didn't come as any kind of surprise.

Wouldn't sing about this topic myself but it's hardly that bad. Who is it offensive to? Paedos?
How would you feel if you were walking down the street minding your own business and a group of strangers all started shouting "paedo" at you, telling you that you shag your kids.

You shouldn't expect to have to put up with that nonsense whilst you're going about your day so why should we be expected to put up with it whilst attending a game of football?

Funnily enough this actually happened to me after the Chelsea game, some Boro fans called me and my mates Chelsea rent boys as we walked past them. Our response was to say "we are Boro you d1ckheads" and we carried on to our car, found it quite amusing tbh.

Shame there wasn't any coppers nearby. Calling someone a rent boy is a hate crime.

My Nana used to say sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me.

I reckon she might have been right, you know
I'm not so sure about that AET.
Name calling shouldn't be downplayed. It causes massive problems and can end tragically.

I'm with you Aet! Sticks and stones.. we should have battered them with stick and stones after the match!

It was the kids walking round the pitch pre match waving their flags and the parents I felt sorry for. They've probably looked forward to that for weeks and then they are subjected to sick chanting like that as they walk past the away end? 😠 A lot of those kids may have found that very intimidating and it could have ruined their experience.

I'm not saying all Boro fans are angels. The 'Frontline' I'm lead to believe were one of the most feared football 'firms' in the country going back not so long ago but the police thankfully seem well on top of this now. I'm all for banter at football matches, it's part of the matchday experience but there's a big difference between chanting 'build a bonfire' to singing about sexually abusing kids.

It's Middlesbrough vs Sunderland.. you're not going to get the away fans throwing rose petals onto the pitch and singing lullabies.

Sunderland fans are tvvats.. keep their allocation to the bare minimum and get the boro crowd to drown them out.

I'm a bit baffled to be honest why some of our fans seem to be against the idea of the club trying to do something about this chanting. If our fans sang numerous songs about an opposition fanbase being child abusers, before, during and after the game, and that club then made a complaint to the EFL, I would support them in doing so. I think that's what we need to do here.

I think this has been going on for too long now. I'm not having the argument "Our fans are just as bad". Singing about us being child abusers has always been a Sunderland "thing". It's not just a few idiots who spoilt it for the rest, you can see for yourself in that Vlog I've posted that many of them joined in on the chanting.

What is quite bizarre is that Boro and Sunderland fans combined to raise 20k for a very worthy cause. All the Mackems applauded at that yesterday too.

I suspect they don’t actually believe the classless rubbish they chanted.

so of the ideas for improving the club and the matchday experience are absolutely off it! well doers with good intentions.. but their approaches are fundamentally flawed and they fail to see the bigger picture.

it wasn't THAT long abo that folks were suggesting sniffer dogs, police searches and caging in our fans.

there are simple things we could do that would move the club forward and set the wheels in motion for a better matchday experience. screaming for rob to go and tell on the Sunderland fans for name calling is not one of them... name calling on a football message board is not one of them either lol

it is embarrassing the reactions to stuff on here. after booing a team taking the knee.. a genuine suggestion was to make 'our players of colour' make videos.. with absolutely no sense of self awareness.. absolute insanity!

Name calling is bad.. you fcuking prat
Racism is bad.. we should make our "players of colour" do something about it
Justice needs to be served.. hang the batsard and throw away the key
Someone did drugs in the toilets at an away match..
WE SHOULD ALL BE FROG MARCHED TO THE GROUND AND SEARCHED AND THEN PLACED IN CAGES

These are actual real responses that I had read on here.. and there is lots more. I genuinely feel sorry for whoever has to hear all this stuff at the club and try to make sense of it or be seen to act in some way as to placate a minority of clueless fans.
