Ukraine - invasion underway

And a Polish friend of ours keeps in touch with her parents who live 100km from the Ukraine Border.
Fighter jets and other military aircraft constantly in the air day and night.
I guess NATO?

This does worry me, I know we need to show a united front but we also don't want to escalate the situation either. Its a very fine line.

We will protect the nato border have no doubt about that.

Thats not what I'm getting at, there's a message to be sent to Putin that either we are ready for war, or a message that we are ready for the situation to be deescalated. I'm not sure what is the right approach but go too far in one direction and it might be a problem.

I'm not saying one is better than the other but when its on a knife edge you don't want to make a mistake.

Sadly there’s two ways to achieve “victory” in a war like this one is to take the city and command key points with in it.

The other is to level the city to the ground with heavy artillery and force a surrender.

News from karkhiv about cluster bombs being used suggests the Russians are doing the latter.

An interesting possible end-game take by Gabriel Gatehouse.

Hitting the finances was always going to be the best way to sort this. I read that Russia's richest man lost $3bn in one days trading. Those sort of losses are going to change people's perceptions and the risks of standing up to Putin will seem more and more worth it.
Fingers crossed we can keep up this pressure and force a peaceful solution and hopefully a long term change in Russian politics that will benefit their own people.

Watching RT news on YouTube when I got home from work last night, it's bonkers how different their coverage is to say the BBC's. It's not a war in their eyes it's a 'special operation'

That’s putins term that’s why

I found this article interesting. You’ll need to Google Translate it, but I’ve copied a part of it below, in relation to the recent “high alert” status.

But, as you know, the Strategic Nuclear Forces have existed in Russia for a long time. And during the recent missile launch exercises led by Putin, a new term began to sound - the Strategic Deterrence Force. What is the difference?

I'll try to explain as simply as possible. You are right: for the average person, these two similar terms can cause confusion. Although there is a difference. Strategic nuclear forces is a generalized name for our troops, whose main weapons are nuclear. There are three components - the Strategic Missile Forces, the Navy and the Strategic Aviation. They are sometimes referred to as the "nuclear triad".

But the Strategic Deterrence Forces are designed to defeat Russia's opponents with the use of various types of weapons, including nuclear. I emphasize - various types of weapons, not just nuclear. This is where the difference lies.

Do I understand correctly that the Strategic Deterrence Forces, which Putin spoke about, are our strongest weapons both in nuclear and non-nuclear equipment?

Yes, you understand that correctly.

I'm aware of this now.
Hell they even had a Russian RT reporter doing a report from Dombass. With the logo on the microphone and everything. Crazy.
They also showed a video clip of a mayor of one of the Ukrainian cities (i forget which one) who was noe cooperating with russian forces ordering his police force to work with them to 'keep people safe'.
