Ukraine - invasion underway

Zelensky has offered to take Ukraine neutral. Which is precisely what is going to happen if Putin does what he said he would do in his speech. Putin can't occupy Ukraine or go after other countries without massively increasing his armies. And that requires money he doesn't have.

Hopefully he demilitarizes Ukraine then pulls out. The US has shown that it's relatively easier for a larger power to win a few battles, but retaining control over years costs trillions.

Zelensky could have stopped all this easily as recently as a few weeks ago. The question is why he didn't?
This, along with your other rambling post this morning, really don't show you in a positive light - a propert Putin apologist looking to blame others for the evil acts he is committing. Putin and Putin alone is resposible for this, to try and deflect from that is a disgrace and you should give your hear a rather large shake.

I’ve been working with a group of Ukrainian’s based in Kyiv and although I’ve not spoken to them directly, they are currently online and working away. I couldn’t even imagine thought of going about my day trying to do work with what is currently going on.

agreed. I heard a police car earlier and my ears pricked up. Then I just thought, what a difference a place you live in makes.

I'm starting to think your a Russian Bot - your head is so far up Poo-tin's **** it's crazy

Russia have been poor... against a proper army they would stand no chance
But We are not talking about them facing an army though we are talking about them facing a bunch of civilians handed an AK47s half an hour earlier.

That’s my point.

because Ukraine has the right to self determination without any violent intervention from another nation. He also has the right to purchase any military hardware necessary to defend his nation and if he feels so to create any alliances military, politically or economically that he chooses.

What you are saying is if Ukraine had done as it had been told, seceded independent political strategy to an aggressive neighbour (who had already attacked and stolen land and resources), tand carried out their neighbours wishes at the detriment to their own....then.....this would never have happened. Weird that I've heard this kind of line from so many brexiteers in recent days from general twitter loons to the more well known figures like Fartage and Banks. They effectively are now arguing that Ukraine doesn't and shouldn't have soveriegnty which is quite a different take to what they espoused back in 2016.

I read earlier that no one is forced to join the EU or NATO at gun point, but people only become part of Russia or russian influenced at the end of a gun. It's a truism

Bang on. Plenty of useful idiots on Twitter and elsewhere deciding Ukraine’s future should be to bow to Russian demands. You have downright traitorous slime like Farage and Banks shilling for Russian money on the right, and the comrades who usually fart about solidarity against western imperialism shilling for Russia and China on the left. Crazy.

What do they think happens next? No chance of it stopping at with neutral Ukraine under Putin’s orders like Belarus. Moldova is a push over. Then Poland, Romania and the Baltics are all threatening states on the peaceful borders of Greater Rus. There’s already Russian influence in the Balkans and I fear for all non-Nato Eatstern European (and Central Asia which I call my second home) states if we can’t be strong in the face of blatant aggression.

Exactly our free media is our greatest asset and also by the way our biggest weapon.

First thing autocratic rulers do is close this down to control the message.

Disagree, we don't want to become Russia. Let's hear their view and then bin it.

I agree, but to an extent. I think bad ideas should be heard so they can be meticulously taken apart. I’m not sure that’s always the case when impartiality means two opposing views are given the same respect, even when one is bonkers, like a flat-Earther being humoured against a GCSE geography student who got a D. I’m being flippant but you get the point! Sometimes the media doesn’t push back enough on bad ideas, especially on rolling news segments.
