UCHE SCORES!

Sorry Mart, I'm going to disagree with you for 3 reasons.

1. "movement" alone is not enough; it has to be the right type of movement with the right service. To get that, you have to have the right balance in your team. Without it, you can be reduced to long balls for your forwards to chase; that won't help you win, and it's not attractive to watch.
2. There is no reason we have to be absolute: a big physical striker does not rule out movement around him. Actually, I believe this is the most effective combination, and has been seen in many of the classic big man/little man partnerships in football.
3. I look at the top teams in the league, and they have some big, physical strikers. Mitrovic, Breaton-Diaz and Gallagher are all powerful guys. Solanke at Bournemouth is certainly tall, albeit a bit on the skinny side (may have filled out a bit; I've not seen him play much lately)
Some good points and I guess it's about striking a balance of pragmatism and sticking to your phulosophy.

I agree with most of 3, those guys use power, but they ally it with great movement and technique, which is very different to Ikpeazu. I like the option of 2, and think our forward cna get bullied a little, but I've not seen anything in Ikpeazus game to make me think he will do enough against top champ defences to deserve to play

I'd agree that's a specific issue with Uche, but I don't think it applies to all big centre forwards. It is also important to how we play.

However, I'd largely pick strikers based on what they can do when we have the ball, rather than when the opposition have it.
Kris Boyd had a good strike rate for us, but did nothing when he didn't have the ball. In the modern game, and at the higher levels you have to be able to contribute in all 4 phases of play.

I liked Uche but he contributed 2 goals and 1 assist in 20 appearances for us.

Cardiff fans will be buzzing and hyping him up right now, as we did after he scored on his home debut for us, but he scored a penalty in the next home game vs QPR and didn't manage to score another league goal for us afer that.

I regarded him as more of a battering ram than a traditional target man. He was good at holding the ball up and drawing fouls but if we want to have a 'Plan B' which means going route one then you can just stick Crooks up top.

To be fair he only had 7 starts, and was taken off after ~70 minutes in all of them. All of his sub minutes from 13 appearances barely add up to one game.

We didn't exactly play to his or anyone's strengths earlier in the season either.

He's still averaging a goal every 200 minutes or so, which is good going really.

Hope he does well at Cardiff.
We`ve a different system now, which needs a different type of player.(y)

Big Uche unfortunate, but I still think he could end up doing something with us long term, better to be out on loan playing games than twiddling his thumbs here.

Connolly needs a goal to kick start his Boro career, am I the only one that gets the feeling he might be trying a little too hard to impress at the moment?
Looks like it. :p
