UCHE SCORES!

Interesting to see if he scores more than than our current forwards over the next 3 months.

I wouldn't be suprised if given a run at Cardiff and they play to his obvious strengths.

Good luck to him, he’ll definitely score more Cardiff than he would for us, hoofball at its finest, me, I’d rather watch our brand of football…

Saw enough hoofball to last me a lifetime under Pulis and Warnock

It was a really good goal. There is more to him than just a physical unit.

Meanwhile, we are waiting for Connolly to do something noteworthy...

I too like Uche, and wish him well for the future, be it here or anywhere else.

I think we may suffer from the relatively one-dimensional nature of our forwards in his absence.

I also think Uche suffers from a degree of snobishness towards big strikers. I'd rather watch balls into a big striker with decent hold up play than long balls over the top for little guys to chase.

The big man tends to only work against poorer defenders. Movement is how you beat the top teams in this league

Big Uche unfortunate, but I still think he could end up doing something with us long term, better to be out on loan playing games than twiddling his thumbs here.

Connolly needs a goal to kick start his Boro career, am I the only one that gets the feeling he might be trying a little too hard to impress at the moment?

Sorry Mart, I'm going to disagree with you for 3 reasons.

1. "movement" alone is not enough; it has to be the right type of movement with the right service. To get that, you have to have the right balance in your team. Without it, you can be reduced to long balls for your forwards to chase; that won't help you win, and it's not attractive to watch.
2. There is no reason we have to be absolute: a big physical striker does not rule out movement around him. Actually, I believe this is the most effective combination, and has been seen in many of the classic big man/little man partnerships in football.
3. I look at the top teams in the league, and they have some big, physical strikers. Mitrovic, Breaton-Diaz and Gallagher are all powerful guys. Solanke at Bournemouth is certainly tall, albeit a bit on the skinny side (may have filled out a bit; I've not seen him play much lately)

Maybe he will do a spence! Smash it on loan and go to spurs for 15mil in the summer as Harry kanes replacement

The problem with that is having a Big un, in this case Uche, who isn't mobile or fit enough to press quickly out of possession doesn't fit wilders style, far too easy for the opposition centre backs to get out when in possession and play it into midfield. They have then bypassed our strikers & tav/crooks and have an overload on us.

I love Uche and he is excellent at what he does but what he does is a complete opposite to how we now play and playing him would disrupt everything.

Definitely not "trying to hard" barely lifted a leg against Cov. I posted something in another thread, its only a minor thing but sums up his attitude for me, the mini warm up they do at the start of the 2nd half, sprinting through cones, all the others put in a decent effort, he just tossed it off. Shameful

It would be an expensive luxury to keep Uche on the books just for a change in game-plan, especially when Wilder likes to have at least two similar players for every position.

We now have the option to recall him as an alternative strategy should we reach the POs.

I'd agree that's a specific issue with Uche, but I don't think it applies to all big centre forwards. It is also important to how we play.

However, I'd largely pick strikers based on what they can do when we have the ball, rather than when the opposition have it.
