Tyson Fury - Fight to be Announced

So Warren is claiming Fury's next fight is all but done and due to be announced in coming days. Let's just assume that he is telling the truth for once. Any prediction on an opponent?

With Usyk, Dubois, AJ, Whyte, Joyce and Zhang all looking to face each other it doesn't leave a lot of names left at the top of the heavyweight division.

WBC haven't appointed a mandatory challenger (this is half the problem with Fury, he's essentially getting a free ride as champion), so he's theoretically free to face anyone he wants.

Wilder 4 or Ruiz are possibilities or potentially Sanchez seems to be angling towards mandatory status to fight Fury. Or alternatively he could look towards a low risk, high earning exhibition fight with either Ngannou or Jon Jones.

WBC are getting ***ed at him, so I’d expect a challenger to be announced soon. Apparently they’re looking at making Joshua the mandatory, as it should be the winner of Ruiz v Wilder, however the WBC are annoyed that these 2 won’t fight either, so going to number 3 on the list which is Joshua

Yeah this has been the problem. WBC announced that eliminator fight between Wilder and Ruiz around 15 months ago and it still hasn't been made. I think the problem is, they both can see bigger fights without taking the risk of a loss.

Wilder can see a potential fight with AJ which would still be a big money fight even with no belts on the line. He loses that fight if he's beaten by Ruiz.

Ruiz will probably be appointed mandatory eventually if the Wilder v Ruiz fight doesn't happen so he can get the Fury fight without risking fighting Wilder first.

The WBC could have appointed a mandatory at any point since Fury beaten Whyte but they haven't. Fury is a cash cow at the end of the day. They've put no pressure on him to stay active or vacate. By WBC rules, I'm pretty sure you are required to defend the title every 180 days and once a year you should face the mandatory. Well he's been let off with the second one because there hasn't been one appointed since he beat Whyte 15 months ago.

Stopped caring about Fury after Fury/Wilder III tbh.

Fury doesn't need to fight anymore and could happily retire undefeated seeing as he's minted and let someone else step up, but for some reason he's still around.

The current heavyweight division is a pantomime.
I think that's unfair to some of the boxers in the division.

Fury is a clown and has not only made himself look daft over the last 2 years but he's wasted the time of other boxers who have good intentions. Wilder is a similar character. But there are good fighters in the division who are willing to fight if they get the opportunities.

My two guesses would be:

Ngannou - based on Warren saying, in the past few days, that the announcement would “change the game”

Wilder - just to **** on AJ’s chips with all the talk of AJ-Wilder in December

Also throw in the grossly over hyped Joshua and you have a pantomime at the top which is probably preventing those good fighters from rising as you mention. It needs someone talented to just waltz in, take every fight and smash everyone to make the division interesting again. We need a modern day Mike Tyson.

To be fair to AJ, and I've never been his biggest fan as a boxer or a person, he's fought everyone put in front of him. He hasn't ducked challenges. He's had plenty of title defences. He was beaten by a very, very good fighter in Usyk and still tried again.

He's doing the right thing now dropping down a level fighting Franklin and Whyte to get some confidence back. If he gets through this next one, I'm sure we'll see him hunting a big fight either back end of 2023 or early 2024.

A big boxing fan and a big Fury fan but i am so fed up of boxers doing everything but actually box nowadays.

The only fight that should've happened (or should be happening) was/is Fury v Usyk.

Anything else is just a farce.
Was is the correct term. Usyk got mandatories now. They've missed the window of opportunity for the time being.

Usyk will probably fight either Hrgovic or the winner of Zhang/Joyce rematch next.

He will be hoping Fury vacates in the meantime so he can have a shot at negotiating with someone who isn't a timewasting clown next year for the undisputed fight.
