Is it really? I'm quite happy to say I despise religion as a whole, I don't see how that's controversial.

I find them all non sensical and are used by the worst humans as a weapon against humanity.

I appreciate there are a plethora of religions and obviously some preach tolerance and pacifism, I still despise them.

It's difficult to argue against that attitude because within that attitude is the belief that all religions are false and at best merely social control tools. However that isn't my experience, I'm reluctant to talk about it but there is tools and methods within it ( my practice ) which at the beginning could be used as self analytical mirrors, which is the necessary first step in any genuine religion, what is my mental state and how does it match up with what I am agreeing with or believe in. Maybe people shooting other people for a ' greater good' need to have a look at themselves 1st before believing they are the saviours of their own religion.
As it's being mentioned people attach to ideas, which involve a greater good, religion, political or social and then do their usual stuff without any inside to what makes them tick
