Tv wall mounting

How ‘basic’ it is really depends on where it’s being mounted. Sticking it on a wall with all the wiring sorted already might seem simple - but understanding how to get power etc to it and understanding what type of fittings different types of wall needed doesn’t always make for an easy job.

As with anything electric, if you’re not confident, bring in a pro.

Very true.

Must have had plenty of coin (y)
He had a decent job.. but then he said the reason for that was because someone didn't try and do what he did on the cheap without being fully qualified to do it.

Changed my perspective anyway.. different way of looking at things I guess. GREAT way to cover being crap at DIY too

my uncle would always refuse to do DIY even though he was more than capable saying it was taking work away from another man.
I was buying paint in bandq yesterday whilst in the queue i was thinking how many of these diy projects people are buying stuff for are going to be bodged jobs. I reckon it might be 50%. I think it makes sense to know your limits with DIY

I suppose if someone cant put a lick of paint on a wall I'd suggest having a taxi on speed dial as driving may not be for them.

easily 50% also there are certain tools/brands that the trades won't go near.. set up to fail? a DIY conspiracy?

another thing might be.. is it worth your time? after the paint, brushes, taking 5 times longer maybe.. with a scruffy job.. you gotta ask.. was it worth it?

Thats the thing to do jobs properly you need to purchase or hire the right tools otherwise it will be bodged when its done with the wrong equipment

Based in Ingleby done a few jobs for me would highly recommend
I imagine for some stuff they're fine, like jobs like this, but I used them and was initially happy, but then a year later had a ton of problems and they had used a cheap hdmi cable that couldn't handle Dolby vision so we were getting flickering images on Netflix all the time, for the sake of a couple of quid for certified spec cable. This was frustrating as the cables were plastered into the wall so meant I had to run a visible cable, which was the whole idea of getting it done in the first place.

We also drilled through a power cable this year because they didn't follow standard practice for direction of cables.

The pictures on that website as well all come up on tineye as lifted from other media installed sites

For the same that I paid these guys, I had a ton of work done this year that was far more in depth and better quality

We used these guys - on the reccomendation of Richer Sounds - they do everything from cabling, mounting, sockets, spotlights etc and their work is in their fb page for all to see

If it is just hanging a tv it is very DIY'able, but depends how comfortable you are doing it and if you have drills etc, solid wall I'd do it no problem, plaster board stud wall more complicated

If it's a solid wall, all you need is a drill. Most mounting kits come with a template and a level so all you need is one of these - even includes the right size drill bit and had metal fixings to strengthen the wall element

Template in wall, level it, drill through holes, insert plugs, screw bracket in, bosh.

But also suggest a wall scanner for pipes or electricity lines - if you don't already have that and a drill then cheaper to get someone in, but very able

The thing with DIY is, people don't take into account how much their own time is worth. Say you mount the TV on a weekend and it takes you a couple of hours from start to finish, you could been spending that couple of hours with your kids which is priceless if you ask me.

Come to think of it they ran a cheap cat 5 cable behind my walls to my tv which i have since replaced

Painting is one job i dont mind doing. I have had some really bad decorators over the years some quoting a grand to decorate a hallway and landing.

I'd argue that if you take your time and do it properly then a DIY job is often superior to paying someone to do it for you. Especially something that is easy but time-consuming like painting. I've seen so many people that have paid decorators to do things and you can see imperfections, paint bleeds or lines that aren't straight. It's much more satisfying doing something yourself well I think. Professionals will achieve a certain standard and they will do it quickly but if you have to look at that painted wall for 5/10 years then is spending a bit of time to get it right not worth it?

The only time I really consider not DIYing things is if it's something potentially dangerous, like electrics/gas/water or if the equipment needed just isn't worth buying for a one-off job or if I can't get my Dad to do it.
