Tv debates for Tory leadership

Yes, should be mandatory, let the rest of the UK see how incompetent or not they are.. all will be out of their comfort zones, their hubris & egos will be up there for a fall.. being it on..
 
They are unnecessary. They can only disadvantage the likes of Sunak & Truss. Plays into the hand of Mordaunt.

I really hope we get Sunak or Truss though - it will be the final nail in the coffin for the Tories.
 
Aye. They need to appeal to two groups who are more right wing than most of the country. Don't think these debates help them come the next GE. It'll expose at least a few them though hopefully.
 
I don't mind when it's down to the membership, but it does seem like a waste of time and money when it's only the MPs voting.

I agree - she would be the ideal candidate to finish off Operation BJ - sadly, despite the Tory MP's having no grip on reality I fear the Tory membership are slightly more sensible. It is a shame. Although they did vote Johnson in so there is a chance!!
 
What pertinent questions will they be asked? How will they fix the economy, public trust in politics restored, cost of living crisis, energy costs........doubt it. Far too difficult.
Expect a "who thinks Boris was just the greatest PM ever" question to be asked and the contestants start gushing and fawning.
All will be very carefully vetted, and very carefully rehearsed - so it will be more like a play.
Waste of time - except to show them up for a raging bunch of RW sycophantic, lying nutjobs that they are
 
It's absolutely dreadful and normalises the idea of only a tiny few selecting a PM rather than the whole country.

I thought we left the EU to get away from anti-democratic charades like this??

It's totally embarrassing to have to select a PM in this way just because the previous one couldn't even form a government. A GE should have been mandatory.

If we were a country applying to join the EU today ( I know, I know 😁 ) our current version of "democracy" and half arsed constitution wouldn't qualify us.

The ERG called in their markers after yesterday’s vote that due to prior commitments all 60 are now expected to vote for Truss. Miss Badenough is being heavily leaned on,principally by Frostie the No man.
No doubt other RW’s will be on her case.
She will probably be reminded that she’s young and inexperienced and that her turn will come. But at this stage of her career it wouldn’t be a good idea to make powerful enemies.
 
Yes, I think it will be really funny and a vote loser for them
They have to appeal to the blue rinse bigots and haters in the tory party , hopefully the vast majority of the country will see what the tories really stand for
 
I absolutely hate that this is happening. It's free PR for whoever 'wins'. One of them will look the best, the nation (or at least currently dissatisfied/swaying tory voters) will take to him/her and they then call a snap election for 'a mandate'. Hey presto! we're suddenly back to square one, looking at another 5 years of wanton destruction of anything left of value in our country. Perhaps we should rejoice by opening another few hundred foodbanks and selling off the NHS.

It’s the ERG vote capture operation. She too will be having her ear bent. Plus there will be a big attempt going on to peel away some of her supporters. There could be up to 170 names on the government payroll.
Jobs available and a foot on the ladder. There’s a lot at stake. We will see after the next round.
