Triple lock on pensions dumped now

Hmmm so those of working age over 40 plumped for Tories. Hardly pensioners.

I'd love to see what percentage of under 40 voters turned out, if they turn out in force they'll be able to swing the election, if they don't then they're letting us all down.

As I said earlier, the number of working age voters far outweighs those of pension age. If they mobilise they'll dictate the political climate, not voting will lead to the status quo being maintained. If it's the smaller section of the population getting their own way there's only one reason for it.

Out of interest, are you against the triple lock, and if so, why?
Younger voters are letting us down by not voting in sufficient numbers but older voters are fine for voting tory? OK

I'm for the tripple lock. I think pensions are woefully low and the tripple lock is a good mechanism to bring them in line with where they should be.
I'm just not overly comfortable with a cohort who had a massive say in voting in the nasty party suddenly feeling that everyone should be up in arms to protect their tripple lock pension when they've sat back and watched the rest of the country suffer non plussed.

My own circumstances may be of interest to some. When I got near to retirement I looked at my state pension forecast and I was 5 years short of the 35 you need to qualify for a full state pension. I had been in full time education for 4 years and at home looking after kids for 12 months neither were credited to my NI contributions. I had heard that you could claim some years back from your spouses contributions but after a lot of research and asking questions could not find the means to do this. I asked a speculative question about this on a forum I am subscribed to and someone responded in the affirmative and even sent me a link to a form you needed to fill in to claim. I did this and claimed the 5 years I needed from my wife’s contributions as she had 41 qualifying years and this enabled me to now have a full state pension.

Where did I say they were fine for voting Tory?

Younger voters need to turn out. If they turn out in big numbers we'll see a real shift, even in rural areas. They can have that massive say that your talking about but they have to turn out. It's what the country needs.

Did you reach state pension age before April 2016?

Or it needs older voters to stop voting tory. That's all I'm saying.

Interesting, didn't think you could do that after 2016.
No neither did I Northumberland but I had heard that it was possible but confirming it was extremely difficult. Trawled the internet, gov.uk/pensions website, rang various organisations but couldn’t get a definitive answer. So I got involved in a discussion on a cycling website message board around this topic, asked the question and a guy informed me it was doable and sent me a link to the form you have to fill in. It’s on or was on the gov.Uk website somewhere but I finding it’s a different matter.? I filled it in around 2018, sent it and within weeks found my missing NI contributions amended from 30 to the required 35 years needed for the full new state pension.

Brilliant, persistence pays off!
