Every main route seemed to be gridlocked about 9 am today...it surely can't of just been the weather and Newport Bridge being closed ??

It was bad yesterday.
I'd been to the tip and was heading back down towards Portrack just before 10 and it was chocker.

Newport Bridge is closed for 7 weeks (started this week).
So my assumption is the A19 Southbound is busier than normal and the traffic is bottle-necking higher up than the usual place (Norton junction) and that is pushing people into Wolviston and Billingham to try and skirt around it.
Couple that with the wet weather and you have increased school run traffic, all making for a delicious mix of carnage.

Ironically, it wasn't as bad this morning, but I left the village later than I usually do so that may explain that one.

It was Northbound that the issue was, with no real reason as to why (i.e. broken down cars, RTC etc). Just a lot more vehicles on the road.

Oh you *******, that explains the flyover traffic on a morning. Good to know. Portrack Lane for me from now on.

Is it all the thousands quoted (in the General Election campaigning) going to the newly created Levelling Up jobs?

The very people that complain about the traffic, haven't stopped to realise that they are the actual traffic.
