I was very saddened to read that this is no more. They cancelled next years event through lack of funding.
Verity got chucked under a bus?. Didn’t he have to resign for misdeeds?I have it on good authority that despite the race being a success it is now finished for good. The funding is around, they just fancy spending it on something else. I think it’s going to be some kind of celebration of Yorkshire.
Personally I think the termination of the event is very short sighted but it also sounds like ASO want rid of it since Pruhomme’s mate Verity got chucked under the bus. That was the real end of the event.
Very sad. I’d imagine the ToB organisers will be delighted, the TdY overshadowed that race. Will we see the ToB in Yorkshire soon? Probably not as you have to pay to host it and according to every council in Yorkshire there is no money…
Yeah… he was a bully and fiddled expenses.Verity got chucked under a bus?. Didn’t he have to resign for misdeeds?
Yes thought as much. He had a reputation for arrogance.Yeah… he was a bully and fiddled expenses.
Don’t forgetI think Gary Verity brought everything on himself, he certainly wasn't 'thrown under the bus'.
And don't forget the Tour of Britain starts today with a decent field. Alaphillipe and Van Aert the obvious favourites.

If he was cleared of all wrongdoings by the police, why would he offer to pay the money back!didnt he offer to pay the money back? bit late in the day after getting caught. i remember calendar and look north going big on the bullying story interviewing people who had worked under him
Chucked under the bus as being used as the excuse for the folding of the event.Verity got chucked under a bus?. Didn’t he have to resign for misdeeds?
The statement I read last week stated COVID uncertainty for the main reason?
no mention of it being cancelled for good?
Sorry Molten you are clearly seem to be knowledgeable about certain politics surrounding the failure to put on the TdY next year but I don’t see how Verity is being “thrown under a bus“ in this situation. As far as I can see they haven’t used Verity as a reason to can it. Unless you can point to a specific comment or statement. Yes I agree he did amazing things to bring the Tour de France to Yorkshire with his dedication to the cause for which many Yorkshire businesses and individuals will be forever grateful but of course that doesn’t excuse the expense fiddling which he himself admitted without reservation. It was a huge fall from grace from a once very respected individualChucked under the bus as being used as the excuse for the folding of the event.
There is talk about not trusting Welcome to Yorkshire with public funds for the race following on from it. The reality is that ASO wanted out and local authorities and backwards and can't see that a worldwide sporting event is good for them.
Shame.
But despite what Verity did with expenses you can't argue that he didn't put Yorkshire on the worldwide map. I have spoken to cyclists all around the world and they all have seen the TdY and would love to ride our roads. We are classed as having some of the best cycling in the world now, all thanks to this race.
The whole population of Yorkshire should be up in arms about it.

I understand the TdY was a barrier to the Tour of Britain going through Yorkshire. if one good thing occurs from the demise of the TdY then the main UCI 2.0 pro event Britain hosts returns to the County in future years
