Snowdonia is the third highest elevation but 23rd highest prominence. Ben Nevis is highest on both measures.

Mount Everest is not the worlds tallest mountain if you take away the sea. That prize goes to Mauna Kea in Hawaii.

The measurement of how high a mountain is calculated from sea level but lots of Mauna Kea is located under sea. If you calculated the height of a mountain from its actual base then Mauna Kea stands at 33,484 feet tall, a whole 4 thousand feet taller than Mount Everest.

that would be Mount Chimborazo in Ecuador. So effectively the closest you can get to space while still stood on the earth.

I'm being really stupid here I'm guessing...

Why is Chimborazo not recognised as the World's highest mountain over Everest then?

Kiribati (pronounced Kiribass for some reason) is the only country in the North, East, South and West hemipsheres.

On a similar note:

Japan is further West, further East, further North AND further South than south Korea
