TK Max to Close

I see TK Max is the latest retailer to move out of Middlesbrough and is relocating to Cleveland Retail Park on Skippers Lane. Its last day of operation will be May 24th and comes hot on the heels of M&S closing its Middlesbrough store.

I'm not sure if this is part of the mayor's new redevelopment or just another retailer moving away.

worst kept secret in the town this was.... said they were going to stay and have the Cleveland Retail Park as and additional shop... but they started telling staff as soon as the lease was signed.

Wilkos will be next, I have heard both Cleveland Centre and Hill Street are battling it out for them as a tenant

Sorry, I've not really paid attention as I haven't lived in area for years but what is the plans for Captain Cooke Sq?

The TK Maxx @ Teesside Park is one the biggest I have been in. Nowadays to travel an extra few miles to shop is nothing in the age of the car. Those without a car though may feel a bit marooned.

Thought the whole idea was to cut down car usage or have you gone all electric.

You can put money on Home Bargains closing as soon as they open the new shop next to B&M over at the Sainsburys that never was. Maybe they could shoehorn Wilkos in there.

Captain Cooks Preston project is an absolute load of tosh.

You can bookmark this and come back in 2 - 3 years and tell me I am wrong and I will apologize but don't think I will be.
Why? These leisure areas work well in other towns. What reason do you have to go to boro town centre other than to go to the footie, go to a bar / restaurant / takeaway or go to the shops? I can't really think of any other than the odd gig.

There needs to be things there for adults and kids to do other than retail and parmos.

Everyone seems to be belittling this for some reason which is strange, lane7 (levelX) is a local success story and has venues around the country. Reckon they know what they're doing

There are always a lot of families around Cineworld and the restaurants in that area. Wouldn't these ideas be better included in that area than the town centre and create a proper leisure area.

I do understand there's going to be a cinema in Captain Cook and anything would be better than Cineworld, but isn't it taking punters away from these facilities / restaurants?

Restaurants around cineworld? Am I missing something? Isn't it a McDonald's, nandos and a Pizza Hut? Oh and a subway. Doubt they're a big draw to people from outside the area and it's right on the outskirts of town centre.

Town has tons of restaurants and takeaways already, I don't think we need more of those and I don't think a boutique cinema takes people away from cineworld or the other way round.

No one is coming to boro for the day/night because we have a Nando's; they might come for the Stacks thing, level X or the esports arena, but I can definitely appreciate that these things appeal to a younger demographic than most of this forum 😂
