Tinnitus

Anyone on here have it?
it’s absolutely driving me mental, I woke up on the 06 February with a high pitched squeal in my head and it’s been there since, been to docs, they gave me something to help me sleep, but I still wake at 4-5am with the noise in my head and then can’t get back to sleep.
I have googled it and prognosis doesn’t look good. 😢

I’ve had it for years you just adapt and get used to it. The biggest problem I have is I often struggle to hear things when in a group or if there’s abit of background noise as I can’t make out what people are saying over the noise and tinnitus combined and it makes me basically deaf to speech.

I have it
I also have constant popping in my ears
Paid to see an ENT specialist as the NHS weren't interested.
Was told it was psychological
You have to learn to live with it sadly

Ive had it for about 20 years. I'm ok when im out and about but when I'm in a quiet area like sleeping it can be quite noticeable. If it gets quite bad at night i play some background noises of nature like waves crashing, rivers running etc... and that helps.

Mine started in my clubbing days. Must have been the loud music over the years that caused it.

I have it but more of a nasty dull background noise, which sometimes at night also has what sounds like music playing. I use ear plugs but makes zero difference. So I use breathing meditation to calm me and even if I don't sleep, at least I can stay relaxed and takes my mind off it.

I've got it after years of working shows with no ear protection. The thing that drives me mad is music on phones. As it's compressed and expanded it puts more of the noise into the "drive you mad bracket"! People don't understand that because it's not loud, it's still a problem!

I've had it for about 4 years, and have slowly learned to live with it, but every now and then absolutely does my head in for a day or two.

I've had it for many years as well as some hearing loss due to working with tunnel boring machines and explosives.
Like others have said, you will learn to live with it.

I've also learnt, to my benefit, the advantages it can bring sometimes.
Particularly when the missus tells me to clean up or do the laundry etc.
" Sorry I didn't hear you " has got me off the hook on many an occasion. 🤣 (y)

I've had it for about 15 years. Really loud high pitched TV test tone for those who remember that. Started off after an infection in my left ear. But also my addiction to loud music in my youth and when I ran a mobile disco for a number of years. Later developed in my right too. It's incurable. I also have reduced hearing so in noisy situations I can rarely make out what people are saying. The tinnitus your brain can learn to largely ignore. Yes, I know it's terrible when it's quiet late at night but it really has never stopped me sleeping.

Same here, also people who walk around using speaker phone it’s almost painful to hear it.

I'm sat quietly now and it is like a whirring noise, I often don't notice it now as I'm kind of used to it. As others say it will just be part of your life you get used to.

Had it for years. Too much loud music, rather than heavy industry, I'm afraid. It's more a minor nuisance than anything else, but when it's bad it's like living with an old fax machine in my head. Like already said, when I'm somewhere with background noise, deciphering conversations can be very tricky.

There was a thread on it on here a while back. I’ve not read it but hopefully some help for you here -

I've had it for about 3 years, ever since building some shelves and having to drill through the insanely hard bricks of my former house. No hearing loss. It does get me down sometimes. Nights - when it's quiet - are worst. I have an Alexa by my bed and listen to rain sounds to try and distract me from the ringing so I can sleep

Hey Stocko hope you are doing ok. I've had tinnitus for about a year now. Just want to say don't let it get you too down, it does get better and you do learn to live with it. It really rocked me when I got it, and I was super grateful to a lot of people on here who gave me some great advice. See the link above that @FabioPorkpie has provided. If you need someone to speak who was in you position not long ago send me a DM, id be happy to chat.

Also, if you're struggling to sleep try the link below. It really seems to match the frequency of the ringing in my ears and therefore blocks it pretty well.

Lived with it for as long as I can remember

Google some of the positive stuff on self hypnotism or threat removal, but beware the loads of crap about tinnitus and the bogus " cures"
You have got to understand its not a threat, its not an indication of any thing to worry about, convince yourself that it's only the electric activity of your brain . If you can do that you will slowly ignore it, just like you ignore the ticking of a clock, lots of good stuff on this method on the Internet.
I've had it for 30 odd years, I forget about it most of the time ( like the ticking of a clock) , I hear it if I'm reminded ( like just now reading your post!). There are times when it can come through very loud, but you have to shrug it off, get on with it and it too disappears.
I used to live on a main road, I had a friend stay, they woke me up loads of time to say a fire engine or an ambulance had passed.
I saw no threat so slept soundly, they woke up every time as it signaled a threat.
Learn to not worry.
