Time to make facemasks mandatory everywhere public?

That's the intention - until the UK sorts its act out. I'm not expecting that any time soon.
Unfortunately you won't see everybody wearing a mask in England.
People still use their phones when driving (idiots).
People still smoke in the grounds of hospitals, sometimes even the staff. (Saw it for myself the night my first child was born).

Hey mate - less of that common sense and learning from other countries who have managed it far better nonsense. UK has had a world class response remember - Boris said so ;)

Loads of experts and face mask deniers on this board won't agree with you either

Just like lockdown - mandated and enforced over here, hinted at and ignored in the UK
Malaguena, unless you are an expert on PPE I wouldn't have expected an opinion from you, given you are knocking the boards experts! You see the irony, don't you?

Really couldn't give a 5hit whether you expected an opinion from me or not tbh (y)

Am I the only one who thinks face masks outside are ridiculous? Yes it makes sense wearing them in enclosed spaces like public transport, but mandotary everywhere? Wash your hands and don't touch your eyes and nose and the likelyhood is you'll be fine.
I'm with you on that too

No! And hasnĀ“t for some time. Because we had an actual lockdown. And people actually obeyed it too!!!

Now we are worried about British people coming here on holiday and bringing it with them.
That's the same reason New York is imposing quarantine on people arriving from the worst affected Southern States.

How is that been policed over there NY? I know they've mentioned enforcing local lockdowns over here and curious to know how it works? I'm assuming freight is exempt for example?
Just so we know what to expect.

They are taking the details from all incoming flights - all passengers will have to quarantine for 2 weeks. $1000 fine for the first offence. $4000 for any subsequent offences. I'm not sure how they plan to police it, but the National Guard was mentioned on the news. Can't possibly police road traffic though.

Ah it's just for flights ok. Yeah enforcing road closures seems a pretty big ask.

If they make facemasks mandatory in public spaces they need to make wearing eye protection mandatory too.

There were quarantines earlier in the epidemic. A friend of ours from Massachusetts had to quarantine when he travelled to relatives in Pennsylvania.

Do people sneeze or cough through their eyes?
No but the virus can enter the body through the mucus membrane in your eyes.

As has been evidenced already by the government measures in this country, half way measures could actually make things worse.

In reply at Alvez.

Do you think it's any different there, they're setting the example we've been trying to emulate as a nation for far too long.

I am a hayfever sufferer and my worst symptoms are my eyes. I'd love an excuse to be outside in some sort of ski mask all summer without looking like a crazy. My eyes being constantly itchy means I find it very difficult at times not to touch my eyes so yes, the eyes are definitely a point of entry. Facemasks are to protect others though, the virus can get in through the eyes but you don't breathe, cough or sneeze through your eyes so you won't transmit to somebody else.
