Tier 3 for London imminent

Why has it got so much worse and so quickly in London?
It was already rising fast before the last announcement on 2nd December. They chose to gamble on London and close down everywhere else. This will have been planned. It now remains to be seen whether they let places with lower rates out of tier 3 or whether they just put everywhere on London's footing, like back in March-May.

If the government are genuinely "following the science" I would expect some changes to tiers on Wednesday (hint: they're not).

For some reason they've decided on a risk management strategy which adversley impacts the hospitality industry, regardless of the accompanying science.

Re: schools - surely the Xmas break is an opportunity to add some flex into the system - key worker children only for an additional week either side and remote for everyone else? The approach to education is both flawed and a "red line" which it's looking is increasingly difficult to roll back from.

i was told by track and trace that schools were the issue with the spread a few weeks ago. mrs lowkey had it too and about 5 staff at her school. i would imagine my kids 100% had it as we are in such close contact. no symptoms though so no test for them

Surely restaurants/pubs closing makes some difference?
It has to make a difference, the rates in tier 3 such as where you are and where I am has dropped significantly. In tier 2 London and some other tier 2 areas the rates are rising rapidly. That cant be coincidence, well, it simply isnt coincidence

But they were rising rapidly back in late November when this new chapter started. Everyone I know in London says the tubes are basically back to normal now. So no wonder the virus has spread. As I say, don't be too surprised if they keep us all in tier 3 though 'to be on the safe side', why didn't they just do that last time?

Usefully though Roofie, the wonderful Post have an article on the best pubs in Nottinghamshire, as one comment says, can we have the best places to snorkel in the North Pole next as this will be just as useful at the moment😩
They will have some anti-council / anti-tram / anti-bike article to cheer people up. (n)
Might be useful for them to map the tunnels in the sandstone around Notts - so we can tunnel out.(y)Robin.jpeg

I think we will remain in Tier 3, and I also think that is the correct action to take, as much as I wish it wasn't, to drop us down a tier will only undo what has been done in the last lockdown/tier 3 initiatives

Perhaps, but as I said at the time, if you're locking down almost all of the most urbanised areas of England, not locking down the biggest and most densely populated area of all (as they did) is just crazy.

This 5 days of Christmas cheer will mess everything up!
Its a daft idea to start with.
A bit like sending all the kids back to the education factories!
A family member is a teacher who was back for one week and 180 children were sent home.

In fairness, I watched a documentary recently about 'the science' behind lockdown and it still maintained that the virus doesn't really spread outdoors. Clearly, all these people are in and out of shops (on Oxford Street - can't think of anything less enjoyable!) but its whether distancing measures were enforced in the shops that really matters.

In my tier 3 county cases and deaths have risen

Sure, I know some tier 3 areas have seen rises, but one would hope less so than if they had been tier 2. There's more than just individuals taking responsibility OR restrictions being in place, the war has to be fought on both fronts
