Surely restaurants/pubs closing makes some difference?Shops and gyms stay open. I really can't see how this is going to make a difference.

It was already rising fast before the last announcement on 2nd December. They chose to gamble on London and close down everywhere else. This will have been planned. It now remains to be seen whether they let places with lower rates out of tier 3 or whether they just put everywhere on London's footing, like back in March-May.Why has it got so much worse and so quickly in London?
It has to make a difference, the rates in tier 3 such as where you are and where I am has dropped significantly. In tier 2 London and some other tier 2 areas the rates are rising rapidly. That cant be coincidence, well, it simply isnt coincidenceSurely restaurants/pubs closing makes some difference?
But they were rising rapidly back in late November when this new chapter started. Everyone I know in London says the tubes are basically back to normal now. So no wonder the virus has spread. As I say, don't be too surprised if they keep us all in tier 3 though 'to be on the safe side', why didn't they just do that last time?It has to make a difference, the rates in tier 3 such as where you are and where I am has dropped significantly. He was quiet about that before wasn't he?Lampard arguing football crowds should be exempt now London is tier 3.
They will have some anti-council / anti-tram / anti-bike article to cheer people up.Usefully though Roofie, the wonderful Post have an article on the best pubs in Nottinghamshire, as one comment says, can we have the best places to snorkel in the North Pole next as this will be just as useful at the moment
I think we will remain in Tier 3, and I also think that is the correct action to take, as much as I wish it wasn't, to drop us down a tier will only undo what has been done in the last lockdown/tier 3 initiativesBut they were rising rapidly back in late November when this new chapter started. Perhaps, but as I said at the time, if you're locking down almost all of the most urbanised areas of England, not locking down the biggest and most densely populated area of all (as they did) is just crazy.I think we will remain in Tier 3, and I also think that is the correct action to take, as much as I wish it wasn't, to drop us down a tier will only undo what has been done in the last lockdown/tier 3 initiatives
In fairness, I watched a documentary recently about 'the science' behind lockdown and it still maintained that the virus doesn't really spread outdoors. Clearly, all these people are in and out of shops (on Oxford Street - can't think of anything less enjoyable!) but its whether distancing measures were enforced in the shops that really matters.

Ha, well they cross so I think Oxford Street might actually be in that shot going the other way. Not that it matters.*Regent St.

Sure, I know some tier 3 areas have seen rises, but one would hope less so than if they had been tier 2. There's more than just individuals taking responsibility OR restrictions being in place, the war has to be fought on both frontsIn my tier 3 county cases and deaths have risen
