Very much doubt it.Did he ever apologise for that or retract the statement?

Yep people often forget that we were robbed of a precious win that we won fair and square so in effect were penalised twice.I'm pretty sure that in all the levels of football I've been involved in, the punishment for failure to turn up for a fixture is the win, and 3 points, being awarded to the opposition team.
In effect, the 1997 decision was to award EVERY other team 3 points.
I remember thinking I had misheard him due to that blooming golf ball sized hailstorm outside Luton on M1 on way home. Damaged my car with loads of dents and summed up how that season felt.I remember that prat David Mellor telling the world that we were chanting 'Sieg Heil' at the Chelsea Cup Final, and not 'Three Points'! Tosser.

I thought Harry Rednapp was the only manager who supported usThe other managers reactions
There was sympathy and relief from Harry Redknapp, the manager of West Ham, one of Middlesbrough's fellow relegation candidates. "I feel sorry for Bryan Robson, but at the same time we are all selfish and, let's be honest, everyone is only interested in their own team.
"Every manager in the bottom seven apart from Bryan will be saying `that's a good result'. I'd be a hypocrite and a liar if I said I was disappointed."
Jim Smith supported the board. "I cannot believe that a professional club cannot turn out a team and I think the decision to take away three points was correct," the Derby County manager said. "If a team in the Sunday morning league had acted like that, they would have been thrown out."
is it too late for a deformation of character class action law suit, Mellor, the media outlets that reported the statements without a notice or retraction. how much has the club lost in advertising revenue over the years? And as Newy stated above, did we ever get an apology or retraction?! Did we hell. Just another example of the contempt for us over the years.

that's what is supposed to happen. we effectively forfeited the match.. the only thing I can think of is that we pushed too hard to have the game replayed at no cost to us (points or fine wise) if that was the case then I can see why they came down so hard on us.I thought Harry Rednapp was the only manager who supported us
At the end of the day the points shouldn't have made an iota to our season, that team should have comfortably stayed up, above some of the teams around us
That was our problem not the minus 3 points, yes they took points away that we had lawfully won
The fairest way should have been to give Blackburn the win, if they can't give points to Blackburn because they haven't earned them then how can they take them away
I think there was a def rift of how officials treated us after we in effect sued the prem league. And in the Blackburn game which we eventually played, one of the most blatant penalties ever was not given. I'm still bitter about it the whole affair.
I don't there was any precedent though. The was the first time the PL had to deal with a situation like this.I'm pretty sure that in all the levels of football I've been involved in, the punishment for failure to turn up for a fixture is the win, and 3 points, being awarded to the opposition team.
