What football career have people had .?
Mine was promising as a youngster Marske under 18s...
Then Beer life and work took over and I played Sunday league as a centre forward....loved it...
Top scorer a few times...my head is a planet so used to score a lot of headers....and had a decent touch " for a big man"
That's my " career "
Would be interested to know what other posters have done

Bang average in a otherwise very good school team.

Scraped the bench in college, whilst attempting to play each sunday.

Now run around like a knackered headless chicken in 5's twice a week!

I was at a few sides when I was very young then when I was 14/15, a few of us did sessions with Middlesbrough at the Herlingshaw, was nowhere near good enough though, some of the players there I’m very surprised never went on to make a career of it.

Played for South Bank for a while, had a little spell at Shildon then just played Sunday League. Still playing today, but my already knackered legs have gone and I’ve turned from a no 10 to a deep lying midfielder 😂

*****.

Honestly though the best league I played in was a Catholic league in Yorkshire when I was living in Hull. We played a game in Huddersfield next to a river and there was a bloke paid £30 a game to sit in his boat and collect the balls when they went in. They used to put coaches on and sing prayers on the way there, mad.

Playing on the field behind our houses with the lads from the estate. Only girl allowed and take great pride in not being the last picked when choosing side.
No chance at school...when we asked the PE teachers (witches) if we could start playing football we were actively told absolutely not. How times change (and for the better)

Always loved playing footy but had limited ability and Sunday League centre-half was my level.

For a centre half I was always decent with both feet and and good finisher so as my knees gave up on me started playing 5 a side more and now spend my time goal launching and scoring goals.

Left back for Acklam Whin who had a record of Played 22, Won 19, Drew 3, Lost 0.

I pretty much retired after that, as where was I going to go next?

Especially after scoring a worldie against Chandlers Ridge when the ball got stuck in the mud - the only way was down, and I wanted to leave at the top.

Almost signed for Middlesbrough as a 17 year old. The sacking of Lennie Lawrence and the removal of his staff put an end to that dream though.

Trials for Darlington, Preston and York didnt work out ultimately.

Played for and captained Billingham Town for 3 seasons and then I snapped my cruciate. After that it was just 7's and 5's with mates. I was a centre half.

Broke my ankle playing for the school in my one and only game in 1st year. Didn't kick a ball properly for years after that and fell out of love with football.

Got back into Football in my first year at Uni after Euro 96 so Played 5-a-side a bit for fun then.

Joined some friends in a 5-a-side league (Power league/Goals type thing) in my mid 20s. We won the league a couple of times in this period which was nice.

Sunday league 11 a-side as a right back in my early 30s, but quit when my son was about 6 months old as it was taking up most of sunday and I was up in London all week for work so something had to give.

Nowadays (at 47) its a fairly robust 5-a-side kick about every Monday evening with friends.

Played for Lincolnshire schools throughout secondary school. Made University first team at Sheffield Hallam, but wasn't good enough to progress any higher.

I moved around a lot with work and studies which made it hard to get any consistency - played University level at Bordeaux, played in the Paris Northern Suburbs Sunday League (which was absolutely mental on a number of levels) and then farted around playing 11s with mates at various fairly low levels. Retired at 30 having had 3 knee ops and the piece de resistance, I broke radius and ulna in both arms at the same time after landing very badly following a header. Have coached kids football for 10 years too.

Distinctly bang average. Usually a sub for the school first team and was captain for the second team, the one time we had one and we were beaten 8-1. Wish I knew and could see things the way i see them now. Maybe a very limited player could have made the starting line up for the first team more often.

Zero, played with mates a few times when I was a kid. Would have been more likely to take up tennis growing up, but haven't picked up a racquet in around 20 years now.

Nothing at school.
Teesborough 3rd division a few times.
Last proper game was in 2004 playing for HMS Ledbury at the age of 37.

Turned out to be a better cricketer than footballer. Represented a few Royal Navy ships and establishments

Part of a great team at St Joseph's Primary School (Norton). We lots our first two games then won every game thereafter
Secondary School took until Year 9 before i broke into the Team - was a case of the PE Teachers favourites until that point. Left Midfield
Outside of School played for Norton & Stockton Ancients, highlight was scoring a worldie against the best team locally at the time Kader. Probably my best performance ever
Moved around a few Sunday Teams and played for several Pub teams in the Stockton Sunday League. Packed it all in around 2013.
Play 5 a side now once a week

Also suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury when I was about 24. Ended my kick about career. Had an MRI and they told me it was one of the worst cruciate injuries they'd ever seen. Was sent to Hartlepool for physiotherapy. The guy who checked my knee told me it was the the same injury as Gascoigne and said he didn't have to have any operation. I said is that right? How come his knee us full of scars then? I never went back.

Capatian at primary and secondary school. First team at Leeds Trinity University and then played in the County Amateur League. Retired from competitive 11-a-side early thirties. Played midfield or anywhere across the front.
