Thought Carrick had a stinker today

He’s got to fit McGree in for me. He brings a balance to the team, retains possession high up the pitch and as we all know makes stuff happen.

Think there’s more work to do defensively too, we still look like conceding every game.

Really pleased Hackney scored, he’s not found the form of last season yet so the goal might give him a much needed confidence boost.

Is McNair injured? is he subject to interest from other clubs a la Akpom style injury?

Even without the goal Hackney was our best player by a country mile today and he’s been one of the few successes so far this season.

Agreed that McGree has to start
Not my fault Hackney had such high standards last season…of which he hasn’t hit yet.

He was a huge part of everything good the team did last season.

I'd of started Mcgree. Although Rodgers did well as a 10.

I don't think he could change much more. I don't think Crooks added anything when he came on. So maybe Jones earlier. I'm not sure why we wont give Coburn a kick? Injured or maybe set for a loan.

A 'stinker' is ridiculous. VDB at RB was a great decision.

We had no left side because Silvera was never looking for Engel on overlap.
McGree constantly plays ball outside so we attack down both sides of pitch giving more space for Forrs to get on end of crosses from left
None of that today with Silvera looking to go himself inside all the time.
...
McGree should have started before Silvera without doubt
Said this before game so not just saying this in hindsight.
This. Look at BoroPhil's post on the Riley McGree thread for further on this.

We need some cover for the back four as they can’t seem to marshall themselves, and while it’s great to see Howson back on the pitch I personally don’t think he’s up to it either.

Ok we had a lot of energy moving forward but it soon dissipated in the second half. We even witnessed some Wilder moments as Fry was supporting midfield which shows we clearly lack creativity and options in midfield.

I thought McGree did ok when he came on but perhaps there’s some sort of issue with his lack of ability to defend — he lost the ball too often when he came on although he nearly setup a winning goal.

It’s hard of understand what Carrick is wanting from our midfield but with the likes of Payero, Barlaser and Paddy all no shows and Riley a close second best it’s going to be interesting to see who is next out of the door.

Silvera instead of McGree was his only mistake. Crooks, McGree and Jones all contributed when they came on
Please tell me how Crooks contributed when he came on, were you watching the same game, he got caught in possession twice, was slow to attack, didn't close their defenders down, he was supposed to be up front but was sitting on the halfway line. He needs to go as he doesn't bring anything to the team. He has served the team well but just does not fit into the Carrick game. Jones came on in the 87th minute so hardly contributed; he did provide the cross for Silvera's glaring miss I'll give you that.
I honestly don't understand what Carrick's game plan was with the subs yesterday, he brings off 3 forwards and replaces them with 3 midfielders when we have 2 strikers sitting on the bench. His substitutions leave a lot to be desired.

I don’t think you’ve understood the tactics that were going on in the game at all. We play patient possession base football, starting with recycling between the centre backs. Huddersfield were given clear instructions not the press Fry and Lenihan but to man mark howson and Hackney. So they couldn’t be passed straight to. This is why we spent much of the game with Keeper and CBs up on the half way like unapposed.

I think that just highlights what we have on the bench really. Crooks has a fairly good history of getting us some important goals so I think we should just about forgive him for putting him on ahead of Coburn.

I’m not sure who the other striker on the bench was?

The other striker was Gilbert, well I think he is a striker as he was top goal scorer for Brentford B team last year. Why bring a player in and leave him on the bench, if he isn't good enough to play then put in the U233's to keep him match fit. As for Crooks, yes, he scored a few important goals but that was last season, he doesn't have a striker's instinct and Coburn is a far better forward than Crooks will ever be.

We spent that the last 10 minutes of the game with no recognised striker. Odd when you had two on the bench.

I thought he might have given Alex Gilbert a run out instead of the frustratingly slow Crooks.
Crooks is a crook and shouldn't be near the 1st team. Gives nothing to the team. We have better midfielders (which he is) ,10's and have better forwards. Carrick must love him as he is the go to man.

Would rather see Coburn come on and given a chance

nothing wrong with crooks only he cant handle the pace manager want to play at jones can & should start for pinpoint accuracy passing i would have spence back but that would hinder jones progress.
