This team reminds me of Woodgate’s

Woodgate didn't have much money to work with either, did he. I think he brought in Bola and Dijksteel, he had Gestede (!), but it was a squad of players signed by other managers. I think the context is different but it wasn't like he had loads to spend and lots of time to build. Maybe the performances are similar now to how they were then but Carrick has his own challenge trying to figure out how these new arrivals fit in. I think Woodgate was in a difficult position when he was in change and it's not much different for Carrick now. I think he should switch things up a bit with the formation, and that is his responsibility, but I doubt he will. Technically we're still quite good in the build up but the defence gets exposed too often and we're toothless in and around the box.

I don't know, Woodgate wanted to play an attacking style but didn't have the players or the tactics to do it. We are still playing some good stuff at times and creating a lot of chances but we continue to concede terrible goals and miss perfectly good chances ourselves.

The league table is lying 🤣

Randolph, Mejias, Pears

Dikjsteel, Friend, Ayala, Shotton, Fry, Wood, Bola, Spence, Coulson

Tav, Clayton, Browne, Howson McNair, Johnson, Saville, Wing, (Patrick Roberts)

Britt, Fletcher, Gestede, (Nmeche)

Stronger than our current crop? You'd have to say yes

I was all for giving Woody stick when he was manager because I never thought he was the right man to start with and then he proved it week on week.

Odd how some are blaming our current plight on him, but maybe the club could use it to their advantage and make him the fall guy rather than Carrick to bring about the change in vibe everyone is craving.

Get Higgy back!

I’m not blaming him. I’m drawing a comparison.

I'd say that team looks fairly decent on paper. Not relegation candidates.

Well there are obvious comparisons to be drawn given we’re in the drop zone. But there appears to be some momentum building on the board against Woody because people aren’t quite ready to turn on Carrick.

Almost like when we had to bring in El Tel when Robbo had run out of ideas, but no one wanted to see Robbo sacked.

Carrick is a rookie manager that could use an experienced second man to help him. Woodgate is not that man.
Is Danks that man?

I just can’t recall a scenario where everyone decided our assistant manager was the problem. Maybe we should have stuck with Pulis and just got rid of Ellis?

It’s funny how a bad run changes the perception of many. It wasn’t long ago Woodgate was getting rave reviews during player interviews. He was credited with seeing Akpom as a No 10 and suggesting Crooks could play further forward.

Carrick is Head Coach. He is not a rookie. He has been in professional football for 30 years. He played in one of the best club sides English football has seen and for a genuine all time great Manager (who was definitely a Manager and not Head Coach).

Between Carrick, Danks and Woodgate, plus the data analysts and others they will have a better idea of what is happening that fans do.
