We have one band in common on our lists and its Public Enemy, I never saw that coming 😮

Steven Wilson - The Future Bites
What do you think of it Central ?

I love most things Steven Wilson does, To the Bone, Hand Can Not Erase, The Raven..... plus Blackfield and of course all Porcupine Tree but I can't get away with this. It's too much Depeche Mode for my liking. Not a guitar in sight.

Edit: just noticed you have Depeche Mode on your list........ so I guess you'll like Future Bites

I know he keeps protesting that his music isn't prog (.....and then goes and releases a superb prog album) but this is like he's saying "look, I fcuking told you". It's his "Hot Space" to me.

I'm also peed of that his tour (now cancelled) didn't come further north than Sheffield, although this is becoming all too common with bands now. eg. Marillion - Hull & Big Big Train - York, being two others on tour that I wanted to see

I don't know what to think about The Future Bites, it's rare these days to be waiting for a new album with such a sense of expectation like I was for it, and that was ramped up by the delayed release. I like it when I listen to it to a certain extent, and I've given it plenty of spins, but it hasn't captured me in any way, none of it has stayed in my head. Nowhere near as good as To The Bone which is brilliant. I almost get the feeling he was deliberately trying to be contrary to the expectations of the prog heads who moaned about the pop side of To The Bone.
It's a shame the tour got cancelled, I saw him at The Sage last time, it was a great show.

I agree. To The Bone wasn't an instant hit with me but I love it now. Hopefully he's got the "Daft Punk" out of his system with Future Bites although I get the impression he wants to be contrary and controversial so who knows.

I know one thing, if you put The Future Bites up against Fear of a Blank Planet (or even Hand Can Not Erase) there is just no comparison.

but it hasn't captured me in any way, none of it has stayed in my head
I've got King Ghost in my head and not in a good way. It's like when you get Whigfield, Saturday Night in there

Ram has been one of my favourite albums of all time since I first bought an old vinyl copy at one of the local car boots back when. It is a bit under the radar, so wonderful to see it here, love it!

Yes, some of his solo stuff - especially on the early albums which got slated at the time - is wonderful. Uncle Albert and Back Seat Of My Car would have been national standards if they'd been on Abbey Road or Let It Be.

Good to see this thread again, and good to see Scubes back on form! Anyway:

Bill Nelson - Dazzlebox
Gogol Bordello - Super Taranta!
Goat Girl - On All Fours
Kraftwerk - Das Mix
Amadou & Mariam - Dimanche A Bamako
Ry Cooder - The Slide Area

I'm just properly discovering Kraftwerk now. Some great stuff, It's great when you find a "new" band with a back catalogue to get into.
