This happening for anyone else on this board?

Hey just because I live in Eaglescliffe, that shouldn't be held against me ;-). Seriously it's taken me 1/2 dozen goes to get in and post this reply, maybe 15minutes bl88dy madness.
Yes it sounds like you're on the naughty step. A grovelling apology works for me normally👍

My Adblock seems to be overzealous. It was letting loads of stuff through on this particular site, so I changed the settings to make them a little stricter, and now I can't see half of the stuff I want to see, like people's usernames. I don't know which option is more annoying.

I just meant the forum would lose out if it went to ad free subscription.
I don't think that is what people are suggesting - basically ads would remain for those on the free tier - or arguably even increase for the "nag factor"

Anyone subscribing would see no ads in return for a monthly fee or a smaller annual fee. These are deemed as donations and refunds are e rudely at their discretion as covered by the terms, it's a "donator benefit", not a product purchase.

At the payout rates per click if you look at that per user, having a guaranteed income is generally preferable on top of better user experience.

This is exactly how readytogo operates - you see ads by default or subscribe to get ad free for a year, which has some minor other benefits (extra section and more upload size for attachments)

The users not subscribing & guests will still be served the same ads.

Ultimately; it will have to happen at some point as browsers and phone OS's are building in blocking agents and privacy tracking disable option by default, and those that aren't, rob will find people will install them because of stuff like this and the paedo incest comics because no one wants that stuff in their computer and it consistently happens so is a regular risk. Yes you can whitelist a site but that goodwill disappears rapidly with these incidents, I'd not dream of visiting this site on a work PC for example.

Precisely this, I don't think anyone is suggesting replacing one with the other, the two options can coexist happily. Subscribe if you want ad free, take it for free and get ads.

I can't stand ads and always elect for an ad free option for any service. Personally I'd rather support Rob directly and cut out the middleman, but that shouldn't be the only option.

It does seem difficult to believe that the ad revenue is that high as to make a subscription option completely unworkable. That must be some deal on ad revenue share.

Doing my ad blocking at DNS/network level I can't whitelist a site.

When we get to that point you will probably know when you click fmttmboro.com and there is a blank screen.

I'm not sure I understand, is that unavoidable?
Or do you mean you would prefer to let the site die than to look at alternative ways to manage it which could suit everyone, including yourself? Because it does sound as though there are alternatives out there.
Even if it does get to that point, couldn't you sell the site to someone else to operate before it goes 'blank'?

Yes, it's a pain in the ar$e and was happening every time I was on here? Thankfully happening less now.👍

No alternatives.

No alternatives.
Hard to believe there are no alternatives at all. Surely not all messageboards are identically set up.
If you mean there are no alternatives suitable for the way you want to run the site then fair enough. Your choice, obviously.

That's your opinion Rob, but banning me for 48 hours for saying so is, as I told you over email, Frankly ridiculous. Going forward I won't be posting much on this site if that's the response to people trying to help you.
I enjoy working with people and I certainly take on board advice and ideas etc. When given that way.
