When Oxford were the visitors, 6,760 wew at the game to see league leaders Oxford inflict a 1-0 win over us

Our last home victory was against Man City on the 20th October 1984, so to beat Leaders Oxord, who had only suffered two defeats all year & break the NYD hoodoo was a bit too much to ask

Willie Maddrens team

Kelahm O'Hanlon
Irving Nattrass
Gary Hamilton
Mick Buckley
Mick Saxby
Tony McAndrew
Tony Mowbray
David Mills
Heine Otto
Dave Currie
Paul Ward
Sub
Alan Roberts

Only one sub, to think they can have 9 on the bench now

I was there of course but can't remember a single thing about the game. A case of the day after the night before, I suppose.
I can certainly remember the streaker on the pitch at our next NYD game against Huddersfield. It was phuqing freezing unall!
I was convinced that the guy who ran on the pitch that day used to live in the same street as my auntie in the hardwick estate , obviously recognised his face not the rest of him as he didn’t normally walk around in the nudie

1986, we again lost 1-0, baltic conditions, what a day to run on the pitch starkers, obviously must have been still tanked up when his mates betted him to do it, think Lwasy was the one who he ran to :(

Willies team

Stephen Pears
Brain Laws
Tony McAndrew
Tony Mowbray
Don O'Riordan
Gary Pallister
Gary Hamilton
Pat Heard
Bernie Slaven
Archie Stephens
Gary Rowell

They should have kept the streaker on & took off Pat Heard

Only difference being the current Roberts will prove more worthy than a swap deal with Darlington's Mitch Cook!
I remember him mitch Cook, released & signed for Scarbough in August 1986, 6 games, including 3 off the bench, no goals

1st 3 games as sub, next 3 wearing the no8 shirt, we failed to win any game he played in, drew 3, lost 3

John Aldridge and Billy Hamilton were scoring for fun that season with Oxford. I'm sure one of them scored on this occasion? Oxford would go on to gain promotion at the end of the season. The Man City game you mentioned was the only home game I missed that season as I had to attend a family christening in London. I was furious at the time 😀

That Oxford match was freezing cold too. I remember it well, match was rubbish, defeat, stood with friends for ages at the bus stop till we eventually realised there weren’t any and walked halfway home (2 miles or so) until we managed to flag a taxi.

Woohoo, I was there, thank you Mr E.

It was my Boro debut, 10 years old, went with me dad, me uncle and my grandad. I loved every minute and can still remember how huge the Holgate was and how much space I had to run about in.

Sadly the four of us never attended a game together again.

Sorry to hear that Pak_Doo_Ik, nice memory of the game for you
