This aged well

People placing a lot of emphasis on squad numbers should keep in mind that Tav was given the No7 shirt. To my mind that suggests he’d given the club assurances he’d be staying. I think he’s changed his mind somewhere along the line and left the club short. The other areas/numbers are pretty much done? Maybe not the No10.

You could potentially criticise the club for not having Tav’s replacement all lined up before they sold him but it’s not always as simple as that. We don’t know what goes on behind the scenes. We’re talking about big finance and money that might not have been there next summer, for a player in his mid-20s with no Premier League experience and with a year left on his contract.

I really hope Wilder comes out and publically criticises the recruitment team.

How on earth have we failed to sign a DM yet again - we still don't have one at the club.
Why, there is zero benefit from that but lots of issues to be created. A post mortem should be done behind closed doors.

It is fair to say we have had an enormous overhaul in the last 3 months. Around 25 deals have had to be struck. Only 3 teams in the championship have spent more than us, ok we've probably received the highest income also, but it's a huge amount of work done. It's a shame that we are short, it's an opportunity for one or two kids to make a mark, but as fans it is disappointing.

McNair was outstanding for the 2nd half at QPR, unless I dreamt it. Just need someone who can play the first 45 minutes without struggling to keep up.
45 minutes, wow! Needs to be more consistent as he has all the attributes

More square pegs in round holes. We've been doing it for years and never learn.

Who are the square pegs in round holes? McNair? Nobody knows whether he’s a defender or midfielder anyway do they? McGree? He’s playing off the front and I personally feel like he’s been playing pretty well. Who else?

Well yeah both of those, but if Wilder is planning on moving senior pros around instead of playing younger players in their natural position it will be square pegs in round holes. Also, I'm not convinced that Giles is a natural wing back, or Jones for that matter. They'd be much better suited to playing as wingers with proper full backs behind them.

As a supporter, I'd like some transparency from the manager. It's inevitable that he'll be asked about our transfer business, so I hope he's honest and says that he's disappointed that we didn't bring in two midfielders.

you'll never get transparency, the vast majority of statements in public will be different behind closed doors and so they should be

That's fair enough. I was frustrated that we didn't manage to get the two midfielders we need in through the door but we have to accept it and hope that we get lucky with regards to injuries until January.

Then hopefully, come January we'll sign a defensive midfielder. I mean, the recruitment team have only had three transfer windows to sort it.

It doesn't really matter what the recruitment turn up. Gibson has the power of veto, his paw prints are all over this window.

I'm pretty sure I read when we signed him that Dijksteel started out life at Charlton as a DM and was converted to a RB. He has attributes suited to the role, he's athletic, strong, can move with the ball, he can tackle, I guess it's just a case of trying him there when Howson is injured or in need of a rest to see how he gets on. He can't be any worse that McNair there, he's just too slow and cumbersome, he's a RCB who can bring the ball out or nothing in my opinion.
