This “NHS Data Grab” thing.

Sent form to GP surgery last week to opt-out of my GP data being shared

Used NHS app to also opt-out of my hospital data being shared

I opted out online via the NHS website
I don’t think that opts you out of the lot. I think you need to fill in the form for your GP not to do their bit too unless it is in your medical interests. Fill out the form and let your GP have a copy. Do it by email and you have a reference incase they don’t do it properly.

Belt and Braces 👍

Correct

There is two types of data you can opt-out of to stop it being sold to third parties:

GP Data - A Type 1 form is required to be filled in and handed to your GP surgery before the deadline of 1st September 2021

Non-GP Data - such as hospital data or clinic treatments. Use the NHS app to opt-out or this section of the NHS website

A full breakdown of how to opt-out is shown here https://medconfidential.org/how-to-opt-out/

Seems strange that people will be able to see my data as it always seems a secret society with the NHS. Been to the Doctors and in Hospital loads of times but you can never find out what is wrong with you unless you ask. That’s if you get the chance!

my recent trip to the doc office was quite unnerving -- these despicable [American] healthcare companies will do anything to grab your data-- probably take advantage of old people who haven't got the time to argue with their providers.

My recent trip to the clinic starts off with you need to fill out 20 pages of forms basically all duplicate information and ask a series of questions about your lifestyle. I asked about the freedom of data act when I was confronted with the documents-- and was told we can't see you if you fail to fill out the documents-- so I walked out. Upon walking out the admin ran after me and said you can always just have a over the phone consultation instead of a medical exam -- would that be ok?-- my reply was it's ok I'll go without. I'm walking out the clinic -- admin runs after me again -- the next question was ok, we can see you but you'll have to fill out a non-compliance form -- I said what's that? Admin: that just states you're unwilling to share any information-- I laughed and I said why didn't you offer me that in the first place? Admin-- that's our routine policy.

When in front of the Doctor it's quite straight forward -- standard checks, and then a blood check. After all isn't that what we signed up for in the first place?

Is there any section on the opt out that covers information shared BETWEEN GP and hospital/ Community services?

As the NHS is in effect separate organisations I'm always astounded how little information is known or available across organisations. This leads to repeated assessments/ examinations and often significant medical history missed or reliance on you understanding your own medical history and timelines.

Data sharing and information sharing in that regards is really valuable.

Genuine question as I haven’t looked into this.
my uneducated initial thought is:

what is it that scares you so much about sharing your data? What have you got to hide?

furthermore what additional data do you think they will mine that others don’t hold on you already through your years of internet usage to date.

seeious question - I haven’t read up on it but I do understand there are genuine concerns. I’d just like to hear people’s views.

The government want to sell our data, they shouldn't be allowed to.

If employers get your data they will start to use that as part of their employment process.

It's a sweetener for a US trade deal that will sell off the NHS to America.

There are just three things but there are many reasons why you shouldn't want your medical information freely available.

No there isn't that option unfortunately. Despite the project name NHS Digital the NHS don't want this either because it erodes trust when talking to your GP.

I haven't look much into this, but I thought the data is anti-personalised?
