These people sat in parks today

They should have planes going over the parks an beaches etc spraying the feckers with ammonia sulfate - that’ll make ‘em itch like billio 👍🏻

Konrad, I assume if you feel the reasons for people not to drive to beauty spots/national parks for exercise are "horse 5hit" what do you think are the actual reasons for enforcing this rule?

I think you make a good point but it probably indicates a large number who disagree with the lockdown and will only do it if they are ‘forced‘.
Think the government are relying on the common sense of the general public. If people continue to ignore the advice, I think stricter measures will be imposed as early as tomorrow. Especially if we get repeat crowd scenes in parks and beaches and other beauty spots. STAY AT HOME.

From the comments from a couple of posters on this thread, I think that at last I have an answer to a question that I've posed a couple of times on other threads - why is it that a significant number of people in the UK can't understand the severity of the situation, and ignore the advice they're given to stay indoors ?

It's all "me me me" isn't it - I want to go for a drive, I want to have my exercise where I want to have it, I don't see what the problem is .... utter selfishness

You might not agree with it, or see the need for it, but just bl00dy do it - stay inside

The sooner the inept fckwit and his cronies impose a lockdown and patrol it properly the better

you and Spanishmain tend to be a bit ‘Holier than thou’ on the subject

the government guidelines allow people to exercise outdoors once a day. You can’t sit there and judge people who follow the guidelines

It's the way it is though. We don't have kids but do live in an apartment. I really miss the outdoors. I go for a run every couple of days as normal but that's it. Wouldn't even dream about going to a park.
Sadly I think this is one of the mistakes in the UK policy. The lock down is not strict enough. Particularly compared with Spain. You should be in your own home until the peak of infection has passed. Only going out when you need to. Not to exercise. Every time you go out there is added risk of cross infection. Multiply that by however many people are doing it every day. This is not good for the people in your country. We cannot go out for exercise in Spain. We live in an apartment. We do exercise in our apartment and on our terrace.

It is for the good of everyone in your country if you stay in. Do not just stick to your rules. Exceed them.

If that's your interpretation, so be it - and I'm not "judging" anybody, I'm observing and commenting, which is the purpose of a Forum, yes ?

Also, perhaps it's because we've seen what it's like, are living through it, and we have friends and family in the UK who could be affected by the stupidity of a number of people who seem incapable of following simple guidance and advice

It's a bit unfair when the government senior figures are reminding us daily of their lack of it.

I'd have "liked" your post Spanishman, but I wouldn't want to be accused of us being "holier" than Gaz ;)

The problem is that it is too late. Every day of dithering causes more unnecessary deaths.

The government guidelines are all over the place. The one clear message coming out is to stay indoors. It's as simple as that.

To be fair Gaz, they both have a different perspective, living in a country with a stricter lockdown.

I would genuinely be bothe mentally and physically unwell if I couldn't run but I can see it coming. Too many people are just wandering around and relaxing in parks for "exercise"

Also we are living in a country that is further down the path of unnecessary deaths than the UK is. Our socialist led government made mistakes early on. We are all suffering in Spain now due to these decisions. I have written about them elsewhere.

The issue is that the UK government has not taken actions that are better that those early decisions in Spain and Italy. So has missed opportunities to save more lives. It also continues to miss opportunities to save more lives.

UPDATED: You would find a way to exercise at home. We have had to do it for 3 weeks now.

I actually don't think the one clear message coming out is to stay indoors, and that inherently is the debate in this thread, because whilst we are being advised to stay home, we're also encouraged to get exercise for up to an hour a day, whether that be a run, walk or ride. The guidelines need to become binary, which currently they are not and this is open to interpretation and (this) debate

That reminds me. I can think of 10 good things about binary. 0 and 1.

I wonder if the government made public their protocol for who gets a Ventilator and who just gets palliative care, more people would stay home?

I suppose they are classed as front line workers and it is hard to distance yourselves in certain circumstances.
I am not defending them here, there are loads of jobs were it is nearly impossible to observe social distancing rules.
NHS staff, power generation, oil and gas workers all work in close proximity to each other. Just imagine getting into a helicopter with up
to 15 other guys for a hour plus flight. Have you got a solution for this problem, as the companies struggled with this for weeks.

There was a video on Facebook from Madrid some time ago. It was taken down within 48 hours. It was a doctor explaining that nobody over the age of 65 was getting a ventilator. Also they were being taken away from older people. To give to younger people. The older people were then being helped to die as comfortably as they could. It was heart breaking.
