................how do I search for them. The search always leaves the word New out as its too short or too common. I was hoping to do a bit of research about visiting but did not want to ask the same questions already asked.

Anything specific you want to know as some of those answers may be outdated now

As I was there for thanksgiving so I’ve traveled in the COVID era of that is one of your worries.

No just general. Which airport to fly into. Best areas to stay, nightlife just usual things. Was thinking about going in May but all depends on if my son can get his holidays. Never been before so any info is gratefully accepted.

We stayed in the upper west side, near the Natural history museum.
Felt very safe walking around at night.
Nice restaurants , but not cheap.

Airport with jfk or Newark are pretty similar. You tend to to get Newark if your staying midtown as it’s easier to get with traffic etc

JFK if you are looking for quick easy access air train to Jamaica station then train into penn

If your flight into NY is a connecting flight then La Guardia is closer than JFK or Newark. It's very congested but you get through very quickly.

Which bands to see? 😁
You are not wrong Goalscrounger. We are contemplating going to see Janis Ian in New York on what will probably be her last tour. Just realised that the dates I was tinking about coincide with the last game of the season and probably play offs.

Son is 36 buffaloboro but likes a lot of the same music I do. Don't think he is two fussed on NYC but he knows I have always wanted to go.

Ha, two of those are mine - sorry guys! Maybe we need an NYC sub-forum? :)

I don't know if it's the same still but certainly for the KLM route flying into Newark got us there earlier than the JFK option (around midday), and then we flew out of JFK as that was later and gave us more time on our last day.

In terms of areas around midtown is the best for all the standard sights, times square, central park, empire state, 5th avenue etc.
There are more trendy and interesting neighbourhoods if that's what you want to seek out but for a first visit middtown is pretty convenient.
