The Wigan/Sheff Wed get out of jail free card

Several questions please . Any learned people know when it manifests itself ? It’s also not impossible that Birmingham and Derby could be penalised for respective sins ( Derby look safe irrespective) .

I know Wednesday is still vague ( how long does it take to investigate - another debate ) but Wigan I understand is nailed on 12 points this season ( they’re on 50 points now ) and I am mindful there’ll be a formal route of doing it .

What is the precedent such as Bolton last year ? Also if guilty what’s the anticipated Wednesday points deduction , as they’re on 52 points now ?

Will take no pleasure in getting a leg up but I’ll snap the leagues hand off. Done a bit of digging and found this dated mid June re Wed

Ps we have the owls to play in a few games time . Anyway thanks for responses

When the season concludes 12pts will be taken from Wigan's total if they finished outside the bottom 3.

If they end up in the bottom 3, the points will be taken from the start of next season's total.

Think it's very harsh on Wigan who clearly have been scammed and the FA's fit and proper persons test has failed another club.

Why these cases have took so long is beyond me, can only assume the EFL were waiting until next season to apply any points deduction.

These clubs that have sold assests to their owners for overinflated figures to bypass the financal laws need punishing and it needs to happen this season.

The EFL need to pull their finger out and stop clubs like Sheff Wed and Derby from trying to undermine the league in hope for promotion before more clubs go to the wall.

That’s especially salient as it shows other clubs they’ll just get a ticking off . Like you say there’s going to be loads of clubs succumbing

IMO the EFL have waited on the punishment in the hope that it won't adversely effect Wednesday's or Derby's season. Once Derby can't get in the play offs then they will receive their points deduction., the Wednesday one I think is more complicated as they are looking at relegation should the points deduction be significant and that could lead to a legal battle.

I strikes me that the EFL are scared of legal action if they deduct points which results in relegation or missed promotion in landmark cases like Sheff Wed and Derby.

Football is in financial ruin and from reports, dozens of clubs are close to administration. The EFL, Premier League and FA need to sort this now before we lose these clubs.

This is the only explanation I can come up with. They are waiting to see where these teams finish to administer a meaningless punishment that everyone can just forget about without any court based "unpleasantness".

Spineless cockwombles.

I think if I was in charge and could do it that way I would probably do the same. They have left it so long now that there is no point in them rushing something through.

They do need to set a precedent though, as I am sure Birmingham have got off lightly this season after last seasons punishment.

This will be the season of 'exceptional circumstances'
Wipe the slate clean and all that - 'and don't do it again'
No punishment

Then Gibbo takes them to court

I think the rules are the rules.

i take no pleasure in seeing clubs deducted points, it cost us very dearly once, but you have to have a framework or it becomes a complete free for all.

There is a comment above that ‘Wigan‘ have clearly been scammed. But who are ’Wigan’?

The fans? The stadium? The town? The owners? Who exactly has been scammed.

If ‘Wigan‘ had not been scammed and loads of money was invested by a good owner who got them to the top of the premier league would ‘Wigan’ be saying that’s them gaining unfair advantage?

You get what you get in this world of buying and selling football clubs.

Football clubs whether we like it or not under the present structure are just businesses with balance sheets, if they break the rules, the businesses should suffer the consequences.

I cant see the PL giving two hoots to the EFL personally. They may state publicly in the media that they stand together with the "football family" but when big business is concerned, and in particular the overseas owners, they couldn't give a fig for the likes of Bury etc etc.

Blimey we’re not good in court against football authorities. 🤔

I heard the back end of a radio discussion yesterday which seemed to be saying that the Sheffield Wed finding would be announced soon and that they would probably lose about 5 points with a maximum deduction of 9 points.

Shef Wed forum saying rumours of a 5 o'clock announcement regarding their hearing.
Not sure if any truth in this though, you know what forums are like for abit of gossip 😊
