Its Official!!

Derby and Barnsley are relegated...

But seriously: Chris Wilder hasnt crossed the Pennines nor intends to join any other club because he wants to "do it with Middlesbrough"! Dont we all?!!! After days of agonising, speculation, rumours, witch-burning, stool-ducking and much besides - he is still driving the bus - has a check-pacer and a road map - and is taking us to the promised land [honest]! Enough of that - its been the longest week in Boro history [at least so far this season].

We say it every week - but its worth repeating. We really do have to WIN today!

Like Chris said - we have to have players who experience "big moments" - get the flippin ball in the net!

🥇Swans Match Facts:
  • Swansea City have won four of their last five home league games against Middlesbrough (D1) since losing 3-0 in August 2009.
  • Middlesbrough are looking to complete a league double over Swansea for the first time since the 1964-65 campaign.
  • Swansea City have completed 21,462 passes in the Championship this season – since Opta began recording detailed passing data for the Championship in 2013-14, the only side to have completed more in a season than Swansea have this season is Fulham in the 2016-17 campaign (22,275, excl. play-offs).
  • Middlesbrough have failed to score in their last four league matches, last having a longer run without scoring between January and March 2014 (seven in a row).
  • Joël Piroe has been directly involved in 25 Championship goals for Swansea City this season (20 goals, 5 assists), the most by a Swans player in a season since Oliver McBurnie in 2018-19 (22 goals, 4 assists).

🥇Wilder`s Words of Wisdom:

“I’m ambitious, but I’m ambitious with Middlesbrough and I want us to get into the Premier League."

Wilder Boro.jpg
There`s no shortage of media space and numerous platforms reporting Chris Wilder`s Media Conference on Friday [22/04/2022].

Here`s just a selection of Chris Wilder`s words of wisdom:

✊“There’s medium and long-term plans, and we talked about players for next year. This is still a big rebuild. Our season is not dead and buried, but this has shown there’s a lot of work still to be done, in recruitment and how I want it to look going forward.” [Hartlepool Mail]

✊“A lot of things get chucked at you after a game, and sometimes it’s not the easiest time to speak to a manager. I’m not saying I get it right all the time as well.

“But I’ve spoken to the owner and we’re all on the same page. I think if you look at my past track record and the longevity I’ve had at every football club, I don’t jump in and out of clubs.

“Speculation comes because the team is doing well, or the team has maybe done better than it has in the past. We all have to handle that and embrace it, and say it’s a decent thing because we’re winning games of football.

“As far as I’m concerned, it’s head down. I’m all in. Anybody who knows me and my attitude to a football club knows I’m all in until I’m told I’m not all in. And I’m all in." [Echo].

✊"I'm enjoying my football, I'm enjoying working for a fabulous football club, we've had some great times so far and I'm looking forward to some more good times." [Lancs Live].

✊Wilder added: “Everyone thinks we’re done and dusted. Without being critical, I’d say there’s a fair few Middlesbrough fans (who do).

“But who knows. You saw the ridiculous nature of the Championship last weekend with the results chucked up".

“If you simplified it, there’s four or five teams in it. If we win our game in hand, we’re in a pretty decent position.” [Yorkshire Post]

Ceri Stone writes…

With four games remaining in a season of transition the Swans Trust are now casting one eye towards an exciting year ahead.

We find ourselves in an interesting position today, as we welcome promotion chasing Middlesborough to the Swansea.com stadium. With a game in hand on their rivals the Boro are only one win away from the play offs, yet they are only four points ahead of us in the table and we are already planning for next season. Who knows how we may have been thinking had we picked up maximum points against two of the bottom four, in Reading and Barnsley, in our last two games.

Those performances, like a few others this season, are ones we could look back on and realise we should have taken more out of the games. Where would we be now if we had the rub of the green on a couple of occasions?

Being realistic the play offs are a step too far this season, so instead of looking back I choose to look forward and am genuinely excited at what next season will bring. The same applies to your Supporters’ Trust.

...........we are excited about the summer transfer window and how we will look at the beginning of next season. If we can keep the core of our current squad and have a full pre season under our belts, then 2022/23 could be a season to remember.

We just need to finish this year strongly, starting with a win against Middlesborough today.
Enjoy the game #YJBs

⚽ Luton v Blackpool [12:30]

Luton Town will be bidding to make it three Championship victories in a row when they welcome Blackpool to Kenilworth Road on Saturday afternoon.

The home side are currently fourth in the table, six points ahead of seventh-placed Millwall in the race to secure a playoff spot, while Blackpool sit down in 16th position in England's second tier.

Luton are closing in on a spot in the playoffs, and we are expecting the home side to triumph here. Blackpool have a lot of talent in the forward areas and should be good enough for a goal on Saturday, but Luton should just about get there despite having a number of injury problems at the worst time of the season.

⚽Birmingham v Millwall [15:00 hrs]

Seeking to boost their hopes of securing a Championship playoff place, Millwall will take on Birmingham City at St Andrew's on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts have won only one of their last five games on home soil, while the visitors have failed to win any of their last four matches on the road.

While the pressure will be on playoff-chasing Millwall to claim maximum points, there is also plenty of pressure on Birmingham, with their supporters desperate to see a response to their heavy defeat on Monday.

Millwall have fared better on home soil this season, but we can see them ending a four-game winless away run with victory over their out-of-form counterparts on Saturday.

1650701721762.png
⚽Peterborough v Forest [15:00 hrs]

Nottingham Forest square off against Peterborough United on Saturday afternoon looking to take a further step towards securing their place in the Championship playoffs.

Meanwhile, Posh play host to one of the form teams in the division knowing that only victory will do if they want to avoid relegation to League One with two matches to spare.

Peterborough's recent improvements have gone unnoticed by some, and Posh will feel like they are live opponents against a team of Forest's quality. That said, we cannot see the home side being able to keep Forest down to just a couple of goals, leading us to predict a convincing away victory.

1650701762669.png
⚽Sheffield United v Cardiff [15:00 hrs]

Sheffield United will be looking to boost their playoff hopes when they welcome Cardiff City to Bramall Lane for their Championship encounter on Saturday.

The Blades have failed to win any of their last three league games, while the Bluebirds will be seeking to avoid a third consecutive defeat.

Both sides will be keen to turn their fortunes around but there is more riding on this fixture for Sheffield United as they bid to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Cardiff have caused problems at Bramall Lane in recent years but we can see the Blades edging out the Bluebirds to secure a slender victory this weekend.

1650701835063.png
⚽Stoke v QPR [15:00 hrs]

Queens Park Rangers face Stoke City on Saturday afternoon knowing that they realistically require all three points if they are to remain competitive in the Championship playoff race.

The Potters have long been out of the fight for the top six, but the home side have bounced back recently with four victories from six matches.

While QPR will not necessarily go gung-ho into this fixture, Warburton is aware that a front-foot performance is required. However, despite their average home record, Stoke have the quality to more than match their opponents, leading us to predict a competitive share of the spoils.

1650701875000.png
⚽West Brom v Coventry [15:00 hrs]

West Bromwich Albion will welcome Coventry City to The Hawthorns for their Championship encounter on Saturday afternoon.

Both sides suffered heavy defeats on Easter Monday, with the Baggies conceding four goals away at Nottingham Forest, while the Sky Blues conceded three at home to Bournemouth.

West Brom and Coventry have both struggled for consistency in recent weeks and so neither team head into Saturday's contest with any momentum.
The Sky Blues could move to within one point of the playoffs with victory at The Hawthorns, but with little to separate these two sides, a score draw may be on the cards.

Swansea City are on an impressive run of form and undefeated matches. Albeit the previous two games really should have been wins increasing the total points tally by four. That aside the swans go in to this game as confident as they have been all season, and determined to finish the season well.

Middlesbrough have far more to play for with their sights on the play offs, however not scoring in the last four games is an issue. Score no goals you get no wins is a simple theory, and Chris Wilder seems to have run out of that wonderful period of time all new managers have, the honeymoon is over. Not with every Boro fan of course, but many now are frustrated with no goals and no wins since April 2nd.

Speaking to a Boro fan living in Sketty, Grant Sharpe he thinks the low travelling support numbers are down to that lack of faith that Boro have the ability to make the play offs let alone win them. January Swansea target Folarin Balogun has played sixteen matches with a three goal return, his loan period from Arsenal not as successful in his goals scored that everyone hoped.

It’s pretty much a game that Middlesbrough have to win, we can expect goals, not only because of that fact but because the swans defence can go to sleep at a moments notice. We saw that at Reading on Monday. With all that put aside the home side have been scoring goals, the last time they drew a blank was over a month ago against Birmingham City at the swansea.com. That was six games ago, and twelve goals have been scored in that time.

Matt Gill, a few sleepless nights after Reading

Swansea City technical development coach Matt Gill talking about the game tomorrow said “We have watched the game back from Monday, the first sixty / sixty five minutes was outstanding and that is something we have spoken about, being the team we want to be away from home, and you have seen that in the recent games against Millwall and Cardiff. But there is a lot to learn from that final thirty minutes and we’ve felt a lot of pain over last couple of days. But we will learn from it and become better from it. It does not make it easier to take, there have been sleepless nights since, but you do learn when you go through these things.”

It’s good to hear the squad are reviewing what was a pretty horrendous last thirty minutes in that 4-4 draw.

Very harsh words from Chris Wilder

Chris Wilder this morning said “ We haven’t been mullered by anybody, we’ve got the ball in a position we want it to be, but we haven’t been brave enough to take the shots. Tension grows, pressure amounts, there’s enough good play in those last four games to show we are not out of form. We’ve been all right, but the crosses have been ridiculous. The longer it goes on people tighten up, we have to get over that”

On the way his side will travel to Swansea Wilder was slightly annoyed his players are treated. “In a way, we will have talks about discipline. We are in an incredible position, they get treated with honesty. We are demanding, we all fall short. Me included. They play football in the top end of the championship, so get on with being a player. We are too precious about what the players think. Their kit is laid out, they get fed, they train on manicured pitches, they get more nice food, then get on a plane and fly to Swansea. They get picked up by a coach, go to a beautiful hotel that’s all they have to do. Get the performance right. We are far too precious about the players, how do they feel ? How do they think ? I couldn’t give a flying ( expletive ) just be a good player and get on with your job”

Indications of a lack of harmony at the club ?

“I’m looking at the body language, look at Chris Waddle, he looked like he didn’t care, if my players didn’t care they wouldn’t be playing for me. It’s not brilliant at the moment, there’s still a hell of a lot to play for. The players have to find their moments, we need to take a little bit more courage”
The swans have some proving to do for this game after the collapse at Reading, and by the sounds of things Chris Wilder will explode if he gets the same type of attitude from his players tomorrow.

Swansea City v Middlesbrough kicks off at 3pm at the swansea.com stadium tomorrow afternoon.

It is going to be really tough this one, we will need to raise our game and hope our strikers try shooting for a change :)

I like the team - let's get into them!

Hope the fourth official can't do us any damage, as we're lucky enough to have Dean "Magoo" Whitestone in that role today.
