* The Unofficial "Official" Middlesbrough v Luton Town [11/24] Match-Day Thread *

Only time will tell I suppose with the line up probably thinking we looked over reliant on Doak at loftus road so most of the play will probably be down the left initially

Carrick literally said on Thursday that apart from Rav everyone else was fine for today. I’m absolutely desperate for us to win this because the stick he’ll get if we don’t, for two weeks over an international break, will be insufferable.
It doesn’t make sense what is going on here. We have no game for two weeks after this and we rest players because of what? Ok we get the Borges situation— well maybe not, but the McGree situation just makes you think MC is being suckered by the backroom staff— annoying especially as we know McGree will be rested again when he comes back from Oz.

I must admit I am surprised that Tommy Conway and Riley McGree are on the bench and don't understand Carrick's thinking. Maybe he thinks Ayling will get more protection from Burgzorg and as mentioned above, Conway ran himself into the ground midweek.

Surely if the priority is to help out the fullback he'd just play Jones?

The starting of Burgzorg surprised me too I must admit, but quite aside from squad rotation, perhaps Carrick is reasoning that as our opponents are basically a side mainly comprised of bulldozing cloggers that it's more likely our attacking players would be barged left right and centre by the opposition, not only risking injury but less able to play to their strengths?

Whereas that big lumbering beefy bug&er is unlikely to be knocked to the deck quite so easily. It's also possible that as big lads tend to tire more rapidly as the game goes on a fresh McGree or Conway coming on with 25 remaining would be much more likely to be able to dodge around the reduced $hithousery and physical challenges and put their skills to good use.🤔

Only Carrick will know if this is what's in his mind, obviously.

Burgzorg is playing the role we bought him for.. to be a backup option on LM when needed. He's got fresh legs is a big bloke , to bully the Luton right side Def... and folks on here are up in arms ! Outrageous :ROFLMAO:
