* The Unofficial "Official" Boro v Preston [09/24] Programme and Match-Day Thread *

Not playing Morris from the off will ALWAYS be a mistake.
The lad is the only one in midfield who is anything like an all round midfielder
Most people understand why he didn't play from the off and we had more than enough on the park to be out of sight in the first half. We failed to take our chances and put PNE to bed. On another day it would be a different story.

I think there is a lot of over reaction

There is no consistency in team selection and playing a 4-4-2 is taking something away from our build up play imho

I see a huge future for this group, i really do, there are some fantastic footballers for this level and i am 100% sure it will click sooner rather than later

I saw some encouraging stuff today, and thought we were the better team and unlucky not to win.

The ref was absolutely abysmal and letting them get away with a lot of dirty play. A bunch of new players were given a run out who all looked decent (really excited to see more of Doak - his feet are lightning fast). We made subs to try take it back that seemed sensible.

Although I like the lad, Jones wasn't working too well for us today. Barring a small handful of moments, he was absolutely anonymous.

I thought we played well but finished poorly.

Tactically, I don't see much wrong. Changing tactics might get us 20 shots instead of 16. If you don't finish them, not sure what the manager can do.

The goal we conceded was poor and either the defenders don't listen or that is something Carrick should do something about or we have players missing. Who knows.
Yeah it’s down to chances not taken, get that sorted and we could be right up there.
So far this season in the league we have had 94 shots to our opponents 33
26/10 on target yet we have scored 6 and conceded 4.
That doesn’t add up very well to me.

Have you copy and pasted that from the last few games? 😉

It feels like we are watching the same thing on repeat

Something else to keep in mind with Morris is that his season started in January, he hasn't had a break like most players do and the Championship is one hell of a season.

For all we know MC might have asked him how he felt. Pure speculation but there may be a reason why he didn’t start.

Calmed down a little. We didn’t lose, so that’s a positive. Some nice stuff at times. Maybe stick Tommy up top and put LL on the bench. I’ll judge after we play the unwashed from up the road.

Still dont think it was a foul. The game has become soft.
That's an opinion that you have about the current laws.
It was a foul and a yellow by the current laws. He was out of control and it was reckless. He followed through and caught Morris.

They are the laws for the exact reason of what happened afterwards. Morris was hurt in the challenge.

I didn't see the match as I'm on holiday in France, but it sounds to me like we are 95% of the way there on what I've seen so far.
We play good, attacking football without the finishing it deserves at the moment. Creating chances isn't a problem.
At the other end, we continue to gift the opposition daft goals.
To me, both of those issues smack of early season, getting into the swing of the season and as long as we put the required work in to correct them both then we won't be far away.
As frustrating as it is currently, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

By the way for context we did this against Swansea. We were the better team and went into half time 1-0 up and then just stopped. The second half was a non-event. We got away with it. This is a recurring theme under Carrick. It needs sorting. You don’t go up if you don’t beat your Prestons and your newly promoted teams. It’s annoying as f*

Slaven as striker coach!! I think you need to post whatever you've been drinking on the weekend beer thread. 🤣 🤣 🤣
Sorry I meant goalkeeper coach!!!!
You do know he scored 147 goals for us don’t you?

I think so too. Doesn't stop me feeling massively annoyed and frustrated today though.

And didn't know the offside rule.

Edit: Slaven's always been friendly with Gibson and spends a lot of time around the club. If those in charge thought he had anything to offer, he would be employed by the club.

There may be more to it of course but it was North America that the games were played at not far flung Australia or Asia.
I reckon he was carrying a knock or something.

We’re still short up front. To have Burgzorg as the only option to replace Lath shows that.
