Its back to the bread and butta lads an lasses.

Brighton is now history and Michael Carrick felt the score was "a bit harsh on the boys", but [against Millwall] "that wont effect the performance".
"The boys have reacted really well. We came in and the boys have had a really good week [and] been really positive. They`ve bounced back really well". Were there any lessons he could take from the Brighton game? "Yes. Theres always lessons. Sometimes you learn the most when you`ve had a set back". As usual, he was the calm and pragmatic Michael Carrick we have come to know.
Carrick4.jpg
Facing up to Millwall. Carrick expects "a different challenge" and appears to have done his homework on the game the lions play: he noted how they work hard on getting in defenders faces and do a lot of work in the box. A comment from a reporter prompted Carrick to say he felt our defence was doing well - getting better - and well up for the job against Millwall. He acknowledged that we cant afford to keep going a goal behind and highlighted the importance of getting "them clean sheets". "Evey game is different" - you could play the same team twice in a week and each game would be different.

Changes to tomorrows team?
"There`s nothing rash going on by any stretch. We`re quite calm about things. We might make some changes, but thats the beauty of having so many options within the squad. This team wont be a case of reacting to the result against Brighton."

Perhaps the most interesting comments the Gaffa made were those about the squad and about the effects of the way a Manager approaches his players: he was inevitably asked about Chuba`s Player of The Month Award and also about "ins and outs". What of Hoppe? The U21`s?...etc.

Chuba: "Hes been fantastic since I`ve came here. His presense and overall contribution in the squad is fantastic. The biggest thing is he is a team player and has a big impact on how we play as a team.....He`s happy here. He`s a big part of what we do. He comes in smiling everyday, working hard and he`s getting the reward for it." It was pretty clear that neither the Club, nor Michael Carrick will be selling Chuba anytime soon. For players to succeed - "you need things to go your way at times. You need certain Managers to like you and certain Managers to stay."

Clearly, he believes continuity and consistency are important to players - and he should know - if Managers keep changing and individual players are not in their plans - this impacts a players performance. That might sound "common sense", but as fans we sometimes take what we see on the pitch as the responsibility of the player or of the Manager. Carrick knows from his experience at Spurs - where he wasnt always "in favour" - he would still work extremely hard and sometimes not even get on the bench. Its been written elsewhere, but its worth repeating, Michael Carrick always talks of "we" and "the boys" and "the staff" as one. He doesnt use glib words or phrases. He always deflects praise from himself onto the team and the coaching staff. Success on the pitch is all pulling together in the same direction at the same time.
1673632716197.png
Hoppe? "He`s a great lad. I really like him. He comes in training everyday and hes a good part of the squad, in terms of his personality and character. He comes in with a great attitude and is...striving to get better all the time". The Gaffa is aware that he might not have had as many minutes "as he would like", but he emphasised there is a long way to go and the lads have to earn their plasce in the team. Cameron Archer? He`s getting to know the group. He`s "settled really well. It was important to get in the flow" [against Brighton]. "Cameron will get plenty of football". Definitely not a development player then!

"Ins and outs"? The same reporters asking the same questions and sometimes answering them too! Any news then Michael?
"At this moment in time, sitting here, I`ve nothing to tell you, but we`ll have to wait and see"!
Well said Gaffa. He doesnt give much away and keeps the assembled journo`s sniffing.
1673632884987.png
Finally. He watched the U21`s earlier in the week against Sunderland. What did he think of it?

"Quiet game wasnt it"?!

So. Its on to Millwall at The Riverside. The Lions are flying high and arent there by chance. Like ourselves, they have taken hard knocks against clubs with bigger squads and overcome big challenges. It says a lot about their Manager, Gary Rowett.

We`ve won six out of the last seven league games.
Lets hope it continues.

Lets go!

Up The Mighty Boro✊

1 up front for them - Bradshaw.
Sounds like they know how to grind out a result
Their message board suggests they struggle when teams press them
Get at them Boro!!

Looks like Zian Fleming has been an inspired signing and could be one to watch

This weekend's game sees The Lions travel to the Riverside Stadium to face Michael Carrick's outfit in a meeting that pits fifth and sixth place in the division together.
The sides are locked on 39 points, with Boro only ahead on goal difference. Millwall, however, do have a game in hand on their Play-Off rivals.
Both teams are very similar when it comes to action in front of goal, too. Middlesbrough have registered 102 shots on target from 326 efforts this campaign, whilst Millwall currently clock in at 109 shots on target from 343 attempts.
Carrick's charges have kept more possession than Gary Rowett's team, but The Lions are head and shoulders - literally - above their opponents when it comes to aerial duels won (658 - the most in the League), tackles won (406) and interceptions (263).

Above: The Lions celebrate during October's 2-0 victory over Middlesbrough at The Den
Both outfits favour scoring from inside the penalty area, but Middlesbrough's strengths are in open play, whilst The Lions are on top when it comes to dead ball attacks.
The hosts are fast starters after the break, having scored 12 (the most in The Championship) goals from 46-60 minutes, whilst both sides have scored eight times in the final 15 minutes of games - ensuring a blockbuster finish on Teesside!

One 2 Watch:

Zian Flemming

1673636287806.png
In June 2022, Garry Rowett signed 23 year old Flemming from Eredivisie side Fortuna Sittard in the Netherlands. Hes on a long contract, so the Millwall Manager values him highly. So far, hes made 20 appearances in his Millwall career.

Flemming, who hails from Amsterdam, began his career in the Netherlands in the Ajax youth system before moving on to PEC Zwolle, where he made 29 Eredivisie appearances before sealing a move to Sittard in August 2020. The Dutchman then flourished with Fortuna, scoring 12 goals in two consecutive seasons, including strikes against giants Feyenoord, and five goals in his last four matches of the campaign.

Its clear how much a Manager can influence a player to sign on the dotted line>>>

"A main aspect of why I chose to join Millwall was the interest shown by Gary Rowett."

* At 1.85 mtrs tall - hes going to be a handfull⚽

I was completely on my own liking that kit. It looks even better with the pedagogy of time.

Middlesbrough's shirts will have a slightly different look to them on Saturday,
with the usual Unibet sponsor's logo replaced by the MFC Foundation.
As part of the EFL's Week of Action, Boro will wear the MFC Foundation
shirts for the Millwall game, with Boro players also set to warm up in
MFC Foundation-branded training wear. The aim is to draw attention to the
award-winning work the Foundation undertakes within the local community,
as well as how people in the area can access its projects and services.

Middlesbrough have been told that Rotherham midfielder Dan Barlaser is not for sale at any price, despite the player having six months to run on his contract. The Teeside club had put together a package of around £900,000 for the 25-year-old. [https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...t-sale-Rotherham-reject-offer-midfielder.html]

We cant play any worse than we did at the Den earlier in the season when we hardly mustered a shot in the whole 90 mins.

They were dark days and it’s hard to think that it was only 3 months ago.

Boro - Current Form

We are still the third highest goal-scorers in the championship.
1673685463200.png

Our Home Form includes the games under Wilder and Leo.
Otherwise we would be in the top three.
