* The Unofficial "Official" Boro v Millwall Match-Day Thread *

God that second half was bad. Just no leadership in the team at all. Jones is a liability as wingback. He's a winger all day long. Howson Crooks are both poor for different reasons but seem undroppable.

Because that’s were we’ll end up again if people like you get your way and force Gibson out.
He seems to be doing a good enough job of that himself.

You’re right though we really shouldn’t force Gibson out especially while we are enjoying all of this success

Bet there’s good few bigger clubs than us that would like the success we’ve had under Gibson but it’s all about now isn’t.

Hopefully the wing back formation will stop - Giles and Jones are clearly forward faced players.

But more steel and organisation needed all over the pitch especially when playing at places like Millwall to grind results out.

Is it 7 out of 8 defeats away from home, that is extremely poor.

It’s all about the future not the past. Realistically where do you see this club in 5 years under Gibson?

Who‘s saying we’ve got no money. Do you know this for a fact.
Well we had 25 million in player sales this summer and spent a fraction of it. If we had the money why didn’t we spend it to replace Tav?

Maybe he reads this forum because apparently Tav was crap

He wasn’t he was our best player and it’s clear how much we miss him. To replace him with a loan that couldn’t get in another championship side shows the level of ambition Gibson has

Today was a day fir the players to show that Wilders ways were counter productive to results. Constantly calling players out, being the big I am. Well this showing demonstrates how much the players are taking the pi55 out of us. I wish Chris Wilder all the best and for those who called him out for criticising the players are again happy with that performance. You could add the Cardiff performance, QPR performance, Reading. Preston etc. Lets not upset the players or they wont perform. Praise them v Birmingham then they give us that. I am sure iur travelling fans who might not get home tonight really appreciate that and decide not to criticise as the players might not show up against Blackburn. Getting the best out of this bunch is not what we need from a manager. We need this bunch gone.

He is taking us there now Kosovo.
The financial position of the club is actually a lot worse in reality. We had debts of a million then.
Our league position is actually worse now than when Gibson took control of the club in 93.
The loser in adminstration would be Gibson. The Club would come back a lot easier than it did in 86.
At the moment it has been 16 years of a death of a thousand cuts.

I’m saying it’s rubbish we don’t have the pulling power because we have spent money before. If we had bought the right players who actually had sell on value we wouldn’t be in the position where we can’t afford more than a few million on each player

Not sure what happened 15 years ago has any relevance to how the club is ran now. Will you take comfort in the fact we played in a European cup final 15 years ago when we start next season in league one?

We don't have the money to spend like we did because we spent money like we did, do you not understand that we don't have that money anymore?

You're saying the past isn't relevant but using past spending as a basis to spend more.

Spending money we don't have to could leave us with no club at all.

We have no money because we wasted our premier league money on the likes of Assombalonga, Fletcher, saville, flint to name a few. That was over 30 million of player plus huge wages we got less than 1/4 back. That’s not sustainable for a club of this size

We brought 5 different managers in and allowed them to build their own squads, sacked them and had a full rebuild every summer at huge expense making a loss on the majority of signings we made

We fill key positions with loans that need replacing every summer and now the club has very little in the way of assets to move on because barely anyone has been able to improve in this environment in recent years.

That’s why we are skint and Gibson doesn’t have the money or the assets to sell to throw any more money at it

Not arguing any of that but weren’t you saying we needed to pay whatever the price for Gyorkeres and we could afford it?

Agree that Tav wasn’t crap btw.

So where do you see the club being in 5 years.

That's what I said but in rant form.

All you want to do is assign blame to Gibson, it achieves nothing. We have Gibson and for all of the mistakes on the pitch we still have a club because of him and that for the foreseeable future will not change.

Spending money we don't have now will not guarantee success but could condemn us as a club.

No, not whatever the price.
I said that Gibson hasn't been willing to invest for 6 years. That he was burnt by the Monk pulis disaster dealings.
That it has taken years to get rid of the dead wood, reduce the wage bill, get the fans aligned and increase revenue again post Covid.
That we were in good FFP shape (but not real financial health of course)
I honestly felt that with the windfall from Spence and the sale of Tavernier, then the club COULD have a go and invest in some quality.
£15m on Gyokeres, would have meant £3m amortisation per year for 5 years and £9m across this 3 years of FFP.
The amortisation from the actual spend this whole summer will be around £2m, which is about 9% of the transfer profit they will make from Tav and Spence.
Fine if it works, but tell me that it is working?
They have chosen not to invest in quality and have the best chance of making the PL they are likely to have for a long time.
The PP clubs have a huge financial advantage. This summer Gibson had a real opportunity to build out of his hole, but just like 2016 he has totally ****ed it up with his decisions.
The transfer profit will simply offset the operating loss the club will make in another Championship season with no hope of a way out, unless it is down.
