* The Unofficial "Official" Boro v Ipswich [04/24] Match-Day thread *

Enjoyable game and it once again shows where we are short. Hopefully we can address those areas and not sell our better players in the summer.
We certainly created the better chances in the second half and I'd imagine that Ipswich will secretly be glad of a point in the end.

I remember predicting that he'd finish the season strongly after returning from injury and the suggestion was dismissed by a few posters.

He'd scored 3 goals in 4 games before picking up the injury, so it was obvious he was beginning to find his feet.
To be honest I was the first poster and a line voice on here, prior to his injury saying he was a 20+ a season goalscorer.

I am going to take credit for that.

You always surprise me may with your opinion on engel.

He is easily good enough for a team pushing for autos and he will get better yet.

He is, Statistically, always in the top 4 performers match after match.

I genuinely don't understand why people can't see beyond the occasional rick, and there are some, but even that's been a while now.
Sorry, I think he is good enough for a play off side. The kind of player that will do better with better players around him. He's full of effort and gets forward, I just think that he will have the odd terrible game, he's a bit slow in 1-vs-1s against really quick footed players, but he continues to show. I think he'll be fine next year especially if we are doing more attacking, with better quality in front as well, he won't get 1-vs-1 or even 1-vs-2 so often.

Fair points. I think he does very well with what he is faced with, and let's be honest the minute silvera was told to help out in the second half their xg dropped like a stone because engel wasn't left 1 or 2 v 1.

He also never hides, even early in the season when he was having some shockers, he pulled his big boy pants on and got on with it.

Proper leader, fighter and someone you want watching your back.

I'm going to give myself a pat on the back as well though 😉

(Not trying to discredit Merlin though, because I actually felt Forss should have been starting up front when Lath was out).

Feel that if we had a Forss, Mcgree, Hackney etc to bring off the bench we go on to win that game. As good as the performance was, we looked knackered the last 20 with not really any options to change the game

It should give us huge confidence going into next year if we can keep everyone fit

So, obviously silvera is going to start versus Leeds given greenwood is not available and I reckon howson into the back line with Clarke and Rav and we play 532 as Luke can’t play…

Dieng
Izzy Rav Jonny Clarke maybe bangura

LOB Barlassor Azaz

Silvera Lath

That’s our best chance surely and Leeds are in a right bad place!

Just listened to the post match interviews, both Carrick and Howson sou ded bitterly disappointed and although it doesn't mathematically end the play off possibility it appeared by both there tones that they felt that was the end of any hope of reaching them.

I just hope we don't go into beach mode and twindle out we are on a fantastic 9 game unbeaten run and the players need to embrace this and try and continue right till the last kick of this season to really build confidence for next season.

There has been a lot of transition this year, players playing horrendous amount of football through injury due to limited numbers, maybe rushed back from injury which has aggrevated things, not to mention the settling in period into an new country and new league for many of our players.

We can only look and think what could of been as we will still finish the season not to far away from 6th with what has been the worst season in my lifetime for injuries at the club.

There have been some ups and downs and Carrick and the players/staff have never moaned or used anything as an excuse and for that I am proud of our efforts this year and think the manager deserves huge credit for pushing us this close with the hand he has had to deal with!

Hopefully the summer will be a good one and we can really push on as I really don't think we are too far away!

A few on here berating Azaz for a lack of pace.
HIs goal against Hull, and the build up to it, says differently.

He’s definitely more of a technical player than a physical one though. Strength, acceleration and pace would take him up another level though. I hope he’s given a gym programme during the summer

I agree that he needs to strengthen physically.
He does possess a football brain though.
He needs someone better than O'Brien with him in midfield for sure.
Next season will show us one way or the other.
