* The Unofficial "Official" Boro v Hull Match-Day Thread *

You can see that we have been working on our shape, two lovely SIMPLE lines of four, Akpom slightly withdrawn with Forss/Muniz further forward. Lenihan and Fry at CB. Giles does not fill me with confidence at LB and was probably at fault for their goal (though Christie still needed a huge slice of luck) but scored one and missed one - ironically scored the one that he really had no right to and missed the one he should have put away!

Overall got to be happy with that performance (excluding the first twenty minutes of the second half)

It was apparent wasn’t it.

It really couldn'

tt really couldn't. There goals was a wicked deflection, and I think Steffan made 1 good save and the rest was business as usual for a keeper.

They never looked like winning, despite some of the comments on here.
They came out second half and it was inevitable they would score - that was never a free kick for our second! And the third was a deflected cross. Possession they probably bossed - we got the rub of the green for me.

Boro were the better of two really poor teams.

The win was deserved but Carrick needs to develop a cutting edge. Boro can't rely on own goals to win games. The standard of finishing is shocking.

Thought Giles had got the third! Anyway three points lifts us away from the relegation zone for a day or so. Would be good if we got to the World Cup break in mid table.

Well done, better team on the night, but clearly not convincing.
Although considering we were playing with Giles and McGree who were appalling its a fantastix result.
A shout out for Akpom who yet again was excelent alomg with Howson & hackney

Good result. Three takeaways from me on that:

Hackney looks comfortable at this level every time he plays. He has to stay in the side.

An awful lot of our problems are confidence, by and large we've got players who can perform at a higher level than they have been. Hopefully this result is the first step towards that happening.

Giles and McGree's shortcomings aren't a massive problem until you combine them. One or the other on the left hand side, but both is a recipe for disaster. Bullet dodged tonight.
Have to agree there, both are píss weak defensively, but Giles certainly can cross a ball. I’d rather have him left midfield, just for his threat from crosses and set pieces than McGree, then have Bola left back personally

I thought we played well in patches and looked up for it, better defending all round. You make your own luck, we deserved a bit. We have had it against us all season. They got lucky on their goal too.

Thought we deserved the win maybe 3-1 falttered us but attacking gets u that. Pleased for the team they worked hard.

Howson unsung hero today
Lenihan looked like a captain
Chuba excellent
Hackney barring a few mistakes is growing
Keeper looked sound

Big improvement but need a good performance sat now

Tbf thought we played better on Saturday, but there are signs we have a better shape in midfield and therefore seem a bit more solid. Maybe a few more games with a settled side and we’ll grow in confidence. Crooks might provide a bit more bite in the three just behind the main striker.

Pretty bang on there.

Giles looked very patchy, not sure where he fits in to this team. His crossing is excellent but his refusal to try and beat a man means he probably isn't a left mid in 4-4-2.

McGree has qualities but again isn't a left mid. If we play 4-2-3-1 then he'd probably make a good 10. Works hard to cover yards and work ethic is excellent.

Smith is solid yet limited. Not a bad shout having him at RB seeing as we want to stop conceding soft goals. Still prefer Dijksteel there personally.

Muniz/Forss/Watmore backing up Akpom gives us decent options.

Bola should be LB all day long for me.
