* The Unofficial "Official" 23/24 Championship Season. Boro v Millwall Match-Day Thread *

I think we all would but if the players we want aren’t available yet for whatever reason what do we do? We certainly don’t just go out and buy any old bod who’s available for the sake of it.
We've relied too much on the loans to fix the problems mate. We shouldn't be as reliant on then as we are. Certainly not in the spine of the team.

The least we should be, is organised and well-drilled.

On to the next 👍🏻

He's not posted anything sensible he's assuming we're going to sign 3 players that are senior first team players.

He's claiming Howson who's a year older is our best midfielder (well that's painful if true).

The fact is 80% of the teams we play will do this. Sit deep, pick us off on the counter.

Let's pray Akpom stays and is good.
Howson is clearly our best midfielder and has been for a very long time. You could see the change in the way we played when he came on.

And of course we're going to sign 3 first team players. We're clearly going to sign a left back - as we expected to sign Giles and we've clearly been looking for a striker to replace Archer. There's two signings we're definitely going to make before the transfer window closes. Either 2 loan signings or 2 permanent transfers.

Once premier league sides finalise their squads, you'll see a lot of movement. Our side that starts in September will be very different to the side we have out there now.

We are clearly missing key players and need some bodies in. How anyone can predict the rest of our season on the basis of this game is baffling.

In that case.. based on the way we played between minutes 60 & 63 I think we’re going to smash the league.. or is there a minimum number of minutes allowed before we can judge how a season will go?

Everyone needs to chill out and let the next few weeks pan out before spitting dummies out already

Meh don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater, I had us winning in the prediction thread yesterday.

But I've seen this coming since pre-season. The big picture is against us this season.

I would be less emphatic in my wording if the ra Ra's didn't put gigantic blinkers on.

Maybe just maybe after the window shuts reality will dawn.

Some classic Carrick errors mixed in today as well got to be said. Random substitutions left really late. How many wins in competitive games in the last 10/15? I don't even know but I'm betting it's not many.

Poor

We’ve carried on the the run of form we endured for the end of the season and into the playoffs.

The keeper looked comfortable on the ball and Silvera looks positive and bright but no other encouraging signs from today’s outing.

Totally agree about loan players and I’m hoping that bringing in so many young lads this season is the start of building a squad of players who will fill places for us over the next few seasons and save us having to start from scratch every summer. They may not be the finished article yet but hopefully will be in due course. We still need some first team ready players tho, of that there is no doubt 👍🏼

Howson our best midfielder? We played better when he came on? It was 0-0 when he came on?! We had 1 shot on goal after his introduction which was silvera crafting something for himself.

And of course we're signing 3 first team players?! I'll take the under on that bet mate.

Onto the next one fingers crossed 🤞

Not sure if it was by design or accident but surprised how different our passages of play were today versus last season.

Lots of playing for that narrow cut back (a Wilder tactic) and very little interplay through the middle. Could be that it's an interim approach until we get better quality in but it was a surprising approach.

Coulson as an inverted full back seemed to work pretty well.

Rogers physicality was positive but far too many balls into him/crooks with backs to goal and not enough quality to turn and play through (hello Mr Akpom).

Forss' desire to recreate Tellas goal from last night time and time again was frustrating.

Dunno how we went from a team where if we went behind I still felt confident we'd at least get a draw, if not win under Carrick, to this and the back end of last season where we go behind and just look toothless.
We don't have Akpom, Giles, Archer and Ramsey. Buying potentially good players does not give us the class needed to break a team down.

Not sure if I'm going to be considered a doom monger or not. But I'm a bit old fashioned in that I'd prefer that we try to have a solid team in place at the start of the season rather than waiting 2 months to get that in place.
How do you expect to do that? This isn't fantasy football, sides won't let players go until they get replacements in. That can take time. Premier League sides won't let fringe players go till they finalise their squads. That doesn't happen before the Championship season starts. we can't always sign players until we sell players. And we won't get every target. We've got the players in we could get in, things will change over the next few weeks. That's how the transfer window works.

Disappointed, the result is what I anticipated apart from Watmore scoring! .. was relieved when he started blowing out of his ar5e knackered as usual

I have nothing much else to say about that, apart from Dieng looks like a capable keeper with that stop and I hope he is consistent. Silvera when he come on too, was obviously very keen to impress and I was quite surprised at how good he looked. Millwall are a very good Championship side, as tough as they come, and he was getting a lot of joy though it was later in the game I guess .. was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable he looked at this level right away

It's going to be a long season though, certainly do not expect promotion but that's mainly because of the quality of the sides that have come down, not just because today we lost ha ha... I just don't see us being the better side out of the rest to possibly nick a top-six place and win the playoffs. Maybe I will be proven wrong. Hopefully!

There's always next season.
I honestly can't see how we are going to win one of the remaining 135 available points.

May as well just resign our EFL membership and wrap it in 😉

I thought it was OK, Millwall are nuggety af and will cause loads of sides problems.

Loads more to come from us, i liked Rodgers, really like Silvera, mcgree had a very good second half.

Obviously the Champo player of the year to come back in.

Dieng looks like he might become an absolute hero by the way, so calm in possession and what a brilliant 1 on 1 save he made, also looked decent under crosses, very very happy with him.

Millwall fully deserved the three points.

We look completely toothless upfront. McNair should be nowhere near our starting 11. He cost us a good handful of points last season, and jumping in like that for their goal was ludicrous. Coulson is not a Championship player, sorry but he just isn't. Has Barlaser ever had a decent game for us? We've barely won a game when he has played. Their keeper probably cannot believe his luck for almost 100 minutes, he barely had anything to do. We are too predictable. I have no idea what is going on with our set pieces. Exactly the same as last season, utterly wasteful. How anyone can try to find positives in that game needs a serious rethink. We should have lost that by 2 or 3.

We had three of those at the end of last season and it was the same, we suddenly couldn't create a thing and it looked like it was over if we went behind.

we need a proper striker in asap, morgan did ok i thought but i think hed be better playing behind the striker, plenty of good things too tho.thought senny looked very composed,we will improve ,im sure
