* The Unofficial "Official" 23/24 Championship Season. Boro v Millwall Match-Day Thread *

I think we all would but if the players we want aren’t available yet for whatever reason what do we do? We certainly don’t just go out and buy any old bod who’s available for the sake of it.
Partly the victims of relying on keynolayers on loan and also having an "unsettled" star player but MC and recruitment team have jobs to do.

Meh don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater, I had us winning in the prediction thread yesterday.

But I've seen this coming since pre-season. The big picture is against us this season.

I would be less emphatic in my wording if the ra Ra's didn't put gigantic blinkers on.

Maybe just maybe after the window shuts reality will dawn.

Some classic Carrick errors mixed in today as well got to be said. Random substitutions left really late. How many wins in competitive games in the last 10/15? I don't even know but I'm betting it's not many.

Were you rehearsing this during the school holidays?

Shame about the result. Don't really think we were as bad as some are making out.

Anyone got a clip of the disallowed goal? Hard to tell if it was in or out on the boro site stream - defenders body in the way.

That was a tough watch.. Crooks off Morgan doesn’t work, short corners were embarrassing, midfield at walking pace and still couldn’t pick a pass

If we have the same squad on the 1st of September I'll be concerned. It's clearly not going to be the case though. I was unhappy under Wilder and I did want him out, Carrick hasn't done anything to give me any concern. Today wasn't a great day at the office, but it's clear why that's the case. I still see this season going the same way as I did yesterday.

Morgan would be better as number 10, Silvera on left, Forss on right, Coburn up top.
I was thinking that Rodgers is probably the closest we have to Chuba in terms of receiving the ball with his back to goal, not as quick to spin but can hold and lay it off.

Coburn would make more natural number 9 runs so I would definitely like to see this.

r00fie we go way back and you know I love ya but I did make a thread and got pilloried and still am back in June.

I'm not saying we're **** I'm saying this season it's not going to happen Carrick did do classic Carrick things in this game. For me the main failing that is inside our control is knowing how to deal with this type of opposition. This is what we're facing nearly every week especially at home. What was the plan to break them down? Could you see one?

Also I didn't say 'I'm betting ' 😂
Anyway onto the next one, fingers crossed for the win.

We'll just have to try and pick up regular points until the window closes and we get players back from injury and finalise the squad.
The situation now with the window closing at different times in different countries means that it puts some clubs in the position of starting a pub quiz with Jedward before bringing in Mark Labett and Anne Heggaty to turn their fortunes around.
I didn't see much of today, but it looked like Millwall deserved it from what I did see. I'm still to be convinced by Barlaser even though there is clearly a player in there, he just hasn't performed like it yet.
As for McNair and his gaff, never really been a fan of his as I've always regarded his desire to go over at the slightest touch as indicative of him not being prepared to do his job correctly and not take shortcuts. That is definitely what his attempt at defending the goal today was. I'd rather he'd faced the lad up and made him work his way down the wing than dive in and give him an unchallenged run on goal.

Of the new lads.

Morgan looked poor to me, his first stab at it all the same. Certainly didn't look capable of leading the line or how to attack the ball in the box.

Silvera was bright enough but we'll have to change our system to slot him in.

Dieng looked decent, no chance with the goal.

Of the existing players, McNair, Barlaser and Coulson look exactly what they are, short term stand ins.

I hate the first month of the season.
Same here. People either have rediculous expectations or write the entire season off immediately. I also hate this place whenever we lose a game. Every side slips up sometimes, especially when they have their first choice right back, captain and striker out injured!

We’ve won 2 of the last 11 competitive games.

That is a very poor run of form.

All this talk about "I could see this coming" - to be frank I rely on an experienced professional with Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, Premiership Winner and International experience - to make better judgement and decisions than any of us. For a consumate professional who has managed for less than nine months in his first full time role - how the hell can anyone talk about classic errors? Come on.

Anyway.
Lets see next time.
Huddersfield next.
UTMB!

McNair is not a right back. Really dreadful and at fault for the goal.
Rogers looks ok but it's not a striker. No instinct to be in the right place.
Crooks is not a 10. I like him but that position is too big a job for him. He just doesn't have the X factor needed for that role.
Forss is decent out wide when we are playing well and creating chances. When we don't have all our best players playing and he's having to be the creator then he's not good. He's clearly not a winger.
Coulson wasn't bad today but we can clearly do better.
Barlaser can play a great defence splitting pass but he also seems more prone to giving the ball away in dangerous positions.

Desperately need Chuba back, or an adequate replacement if he's leaving. Desperately need a proper striker both fullbacks need improving and another midfielder if Howson isn't available (maybe that will be Payero).
