* The Unofficial “Official” Boro v Stoke [03/24] Match-Day Thread *

Three [3] points from the last fifteen [15] just says it all.
I was thinking we had a positive plan going forward this season, with new players, hungry for the game and a positive team spirit.
All we have at the moment is a rag-bag of all sorts who look like a collection of individuals, not a team.
This is Carricks biggest test of his short Managerial Career so far.
He's got to sort it out and kick their arzes!

5 at the back 2 in the middle of midfield hasnt worked for months
Remembering back to the Wilder days, when we couldn't keep a clean sheet because the back 5 were all over the shop. Even the fans knew what the fix was.

Time to get back to basics 4-4-2.

You can't afford to ship goals like we do when we have nothing to offer up top.

There are several annoying elements to the way we are playing at the moment.

Many of the players are playing poorly, given the injuries we have Carrick doesn't have many options but... He needs to make us more solid, given we are struggling to score. I don't like 3 CB's but if it starts to grind out a few results for us then so be it.

Carrick also made a mistake with LB and RB today. Both were pretty poor.

Carrick put a team out that, once we went 1 down, lost all faith in their ability to get back into the game. That is wholly down to Carrick. We can blame the recruitement all we want, but the players available to carrick are capable of better than they are showing at the moment and that is down to the manager.

The lack of fight, belief and the willingness to be proffessional was all missing today.

I thought Lath chased everything and he was the only one today. Dijksteele, whilst he is limited, at least bust a gut to try.

Very dissappointed in Carrick today.

I don't usually feel this angry, frustrated and disappointed, but today summed up the flippin season.
Promised “jam tomorrow” at the start of the season and ended up with an empty plate, no jam and no bread.
Shambles.
Over to Michael Carrick>>>>>>>>

Very dissappointing Roofers.

Lukas Engel : Sorry boys, that’s probably the worst fullback performance youve seen in many a year, and against such a poor side like Sheff Wed. I can only apologise.

Luke Thomas: Hold my beer….

Worrying, we need to get a couple of results from somewhere? But this group of players look mentally and physically very weak.
I just cannot believe Carrick didn’t play 532

We will murder any team away if we can beat Leicester, all away teams will come at us so we defend and pick them off - until we get jones howson and hopefully Coburn and Hackney back 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Dieng 6 : terrible exposed for the first, deflection for the second, kicking was generally ok bar one bad one

Ayling 5 : can’t play the ball under pressure, terrible mistake for the opener

Thomas 2 : and I’m being generous, slow getting back, beaten with even the most basic skill, outmuscled, and panicky with the ball at his feet. Just awful

Rav 6 : maturing in possession, won plenty in the air and on the ground

Clarke 7 : played well, wasn’t frightened by pressure, defended well. If the Cbs had decent FBs or a CDM I’d be confident in them

Barlaser 4 : mistake after mistake, teams target him when playing out as he’s too slow and error prone under pressure

O’brien 5 : doesn’t do much wrong but doesn’t make much happen an enormous downgrade on Hackney in this side

Forss 6 : played well first half, probably our best player, but tired and looked a bit despondent later on

McGree 5 : not a lot clicked for him today

Greenwood 5 : worked hard but read McGree

Lath 6 : worked hard, gave us more up top, scared their cbs but was feeding off scraps and was isolated too often

Engel 6 : attack fullback, does what it says on the tin

Azaz 6 invoked in our best move

Silvera and Dijksteel not on long enough to judge

That ball to Barlaser when he was marked was absolutely appalling. He's in the perfect position to see what's available upfield and that was the only option?

For one game let’s get the defence up to the half way line for goal kicks and go long. At least then they have to start a move to score in their own half rather than the edge of our box! I do miss the good old days’.

Let's play a solid back four and if we scrap it out for a draw, then it's an improvement.
No more flapping about at the back.
Like you say, move the line up. (y)

If Thomas was a 2 then so was Ayling

I remember when Mogga got the sack the next game against Doncaster we played Ben Gibson at LB and Rhys Williams at RB, with Woodgate and Ayala at CB. We played 4-4-2 and had 4 CB's across the back 4. It worked a treat, but I'm not sure I'd want to see us try it now.
