* The Unofficial “Official”, Boro v Chelsea. Carabao Cup, Semi-final, First Leg. Match-Day Thread *

Sky has just shown us defending crosses and the camera was looking along our back four, you could see us drop as a unit and moving forward as a unit. One or all of them must have been talking for the way they did it.

It reminded me of George Grahams Arsenal or the dance scene in The Full Monty.

From the SW corner. It looked like Fry was the main organizer/ communicator

What a result  I watched with a Chelsea fan from work. He was bouncing in his seat before KO telling me about Palmer. By the end he was admitting the better team won.

Boro didn't give them a sniff second half. 🤩 Have to admit I'm already dreading the second leg though. Anyone on the FA cup replays thread earlier, do you stand by it now?

We've all seen how adventurous and forward thinking Boro have been coached by Carrick and his coaching team, but the last two games have demonstrated how he can organise a team to be solid and play as a unit - his stock has risen sharply because of this.

Will be interesting to see how we play in the return leg, most likely the same, but you never know

We have given ourselves a realistic chance of a cup final. We will have some players back.

Given the complete change of tactics required when latte lath went off injured, a Masterclass in tactics from Carrick. A Masterclass in dig in from the boys.

Just spoke to a Chelsea supporter I am out with and he doesn't think Chelsea have enough to come back.

Great result but let’s be honest they have more than enough as shown by the wasted chances tonight. I doubt we would be as lucky again if they got similar chances at home, but hopefully with a few more bodies back we will cause them plenty of problems.

We also should of been 1 nil up inside 3 mins if ELL's leg didn't fall off

I think it would be fair to say Chelsea struggled to create tonight.

Their best chances came from mistakes by us. Ok, you can argue their press forced those errors: last time we were in the PL, the biggest difference that struck me was the efficiency of the press, and it was no different tonight. But they didn't slice us apart much.

If we gift them chances, yes I'd expect them to take some. Otherwise, I felt they huffed and puffed but lack the flair and guile to open us up.

Our defence was very good and stifled them. I do worry about making the ball stick a bit more upfront in the second leg especially if Josh is not 100% and we don’t have Lath.

This will be vital to help relieve any head of steam Chelsea will look to build up.
