The thing about Michael Carrick

We'll be announcing an extension soon, I'd guess.

Talks were already well underway and positive, with the reports being that one was about to be agree, but then that run of bad home defeats obviously made the optics of announcing it difficult.
It would definitely have been an odd announcement if we were in a relegation scrap.

I do agree that he does generally come across as being calm and level-headed, although I did feel he was getting a bit flustered during recent interviews, where he was a bit short with the bbc tees interviewer. It was understandable at the time though, as we'd all felt frustrated with the way the season had unravelled.

I do feel he should have changed the system sooner. Stoke away was the game when he needed to switch to wing-backs, especially after how well it had worked at Leicester.

The encouraging thing is that it has hopefully proven to Carrick that it's worth changing the system when things aren't going well, and it should mean he'll be more willing to be flexible in that regard in future.

It’s great when everything is going well, but I was more than worried when we were repeating the same errors again and again just a few games ago. The players need to take some of the blame for that though.

Need to remember that this is his first full season as a manager.

Carrick has done pretty well this season given the hand recruitment and excess injuries have dealt him.

The talk by some earlier of him being the problem was ridiculous. We are lucky to have him as manager.
If he gets this significantly weaker squad into the play offs (which he won't) then it will be a minor miracle.
