The Teesside Times

Not the Teesside Times but delivered newspaper’s before school and at weekends mid 70’s (Sundays were a killer)
Got £1:62,1/2p a week. Also remember getting over a fiver in Christmas tips. Thought I was Rockerfeller 🤣

Teesside times and herald and post ran at the same time, at least for part way. I could be wrong but I think the gazette bought them out and gradually absorbed them and they became feature of the gazette.

Think both fell foul of admag and other similar publications that weren't free but had a lot more in them. Meanwhile the gazette fell foul of itself.

I’m another who used to deliver these. Absolute exploitative child labour. Less than a fiver most weeks, unless there was loads of leaflets but they just meant more weight. Plus I’ve never liked dogs since

Same here! - about 1972 my dad bought me second hand snooker table from a family in Billingham. The ad was probably in TT. The free paper was nearly all adverts. I used to find piles of abandoned ones in the woods. They were boring to me, no photos, no sport, no TV schedules.
Ah yes the woods, everyone used to play in the woods in those days....building dens climbing trees, making spears out of bracken stalks and reading porno mags if you were lucky enough to find one 🤣

I once ended up doing a H&P delivery round as a favour when my mate was on holiday, so luckily it was during summer weather, but I can't believe he was out during the winter months doing that for a couple of years. I think I got just over a tenner, so it must've been into the hundreds of papers!

I used to do the Teesside Times I got £1.80 and it took me about 4 hours to do them.Unless my mam helped me deliver them then it took 1 hour, she was electric she would be up one side of the street and halfway down my side when we met.

I delivered about 200 around Acklam mid 80s. I delivered along Low Lane and all the big houses and long driveways. Even to Chris Reas family home. I’m convinced my knackered shoulders now I’m +50 are the result of it.

It was a real treat when this came through the letterbox

Those with playstations et al don't know what they have missed out on

Both were running together into the 90's.. H&P ON Wednesday and TT On a Thursday

TT was the first to go but I think the H&P is still in print and free to collect in some places, they just don't deliver them now.

Big thing i liked about them was the sports roundups from the week in the days before the tinternet.

Did they reverse this? I've not seen one in years and sure the gazette has something on cover that said something about incorporating it but they seem to have taken it off now

Their website was icTeesside.co.uk which is currently cybersquatted, free papers would rely on advertisers so you'd think they'd be easier to find if still in circulation

TT delivery boy here too! My God, those bags were heavy.
The TT was the Gazette's rival for ad space back in the day

Not sure but I think the H&P was brought out to rival the TT in terms of ad space

This reminded me, I used to deliver the first 80, have tea, then my Dad (who had just come back from a days work at British Steel) used to then help me finish the round. Some superheroes don’t wear capes.

All adverts and lonely-hearts columns (a thing of the past now!). Plus a few dodgy 'massage parlours'! How times have changed. Got my first and second cars through Teesside Times. Also delivered it for a couple of years.

Can anyone remember the name of the company that printed it? I assume it was printed pretty locally.

I also remember as an 11 year old reading the wedding announcements (this could have been the gazette), I used to see something like Mark Roberts is marrying Leanne Steele both of X Road, and think blimey the haven’t cast the net very far, or realising they probably lived together before getting married

People living over the brush even back then.

I'm time served TT. Used to deliver about 180 around Yarm. On a good day would take about 1 and half hours.
Had to go home half way through to refill bag. When first full the strap felt like it was cutting into my shoulder.
I used to love the leaflets. Meant more money. Used to be an extra 60p per bundle of leaflets.
A lady would drop them off at my house on a Wednesday night along with my envelope of cash from the week before.
Would try and get them done before School. Hands were absolutely filthy afterwards.
