Apologies if this is too tangential, but I feel like there is a real sense of decline around. I was out and about round York yesterday and was surprised how quiet the roads were. Maybe nobody can afford to go out with the cost of everything, especially fuel. Paid £194.9 per litre for diesel near Thirsk. Shocking.

Some of the boot camp users do tend to block off the main entrance to the Barrage from the top car park, which can be a bit intimidating at times, and some cyclists seem to treat the place as a Tour de France stage but overall its a great place to visit.

why the whole of our region seems to mourn the River Tees rather than celebrate and enjoy it is beyond me.

I have never understood why the local authorities (and businesses for that matter) seem to want to make it as difficult as possible for people to want to visit the river and surrounding areas and spend some time and money.

I would guess that once its an "organised" event, the organisers have issues around public liability etc, and some of the landowners who are more than happy for public access and right of way to be granted to individuals, might themselves have liability issues with such an organised event should something happen.

Just make it unofficial then? Surely nothing can be done to stop a group of people jogging about?
