The Southampton area

First time I’ve been to this part of the country. I must say it lovely. Spoke to quite a few local people yesterday and all were spot on. I suppose it helps when there is no rivalry between the two clubs.

Winchester as mentioned to me is lovely. Eastleigh a decent town. Southampton itself good too I thought.

Only downside was the trains. Pretty terrible all day. Late and massively overcrowded. Typical England I suppose.

Went to Uni there in the 70s. It’s changed a lot with the developments at the docks, Ocean Village etc. Derby Rd round the corner from the ground was the notorious red light district then. Shows what you can do to transform a town built around water.

An away day wouldn't be complete without a terrible experience on the trains.

I live here and the locals have so little understanding of what a lovely part of the country it is. Close to so much and the city has been so heavily invested in. ***** football club mind :) UTB

We had a lovely day too. Had a good night too. Now at Waterloo waiting for our massive 'Victory' breakfast. Names after the pub named after the battle.

Just a few miles west and you hit the beauty of the New Forest and East you have the sailing area of Hamble. the Jolly Sailor was a trip we made regularly at weekends. Made famous by Howard’s Way.

Thats where I live, Hamble. It is gorgeous. 1711788491217.png

The Jolly is my favourite summer pub, sitting on the deck having a pint or paddleboarding there for one.

Spent a lot of time down there as a kid. My mum was from Winchester, stationed in Thornaby during the war and met my dad. I met up with my cousin at the saints match in the karanka years.
Lovely part of the world

Love that area. I try to cycle Bournemouth to Brighton along the coast each year and camp en route. New Forrest, through totten, Southampton, Portsmouth & coastal towns along the way. Love it, especially down by the Hamble , normally camp by Warsash 1 night by the River near the ferry. Some great views on a morning/evening at sunset/sunrise.

I went to visit a mate in Soton after the Chelsea away play off match. Ended up hammered and then went to a nightclub where funny enough none of the women would enter into a conversation about Bernie Slaven or Gary Pallister with me. I thought they were rather rude.

New Forest on its doorstep too. Saints and Pompey both proper clubs with an intense rivalry. Looks like yesterday’s the end of their automatic hopes, but was impressed by their playing out from the back. Play offs could be interesting as I would favour them over Leicester and West Brom, Coventry could be the dark horse again.

Ah brings back memories mate. It was student haunt in the 70s would you believe. I also used to regularly play ten pin bowling in Bitterne for the Uni and lived in Swaythling for a couple of years before moving down to St Denys for my third year at Uni.

First time I saw Boro at the Dell was when at Uni/ 1978. We lost 2-1 - goals from Alan Ball and Chris Nicholl.

First time in Southampton during the day in years. Last time I saw Boro play at St Marys was probably around 2005. Been to loads of gigs in different venues there. But do not normally arrive till after 7. Probably go and see Erja Lyytinen at the 1865 in a couple of weeks.

We missed the first 20 minutes and goal due to being sat at Brockenhurst Station for nearly an hour waiting for a train.

I thought when playing out from the back they crumbled under any type of high press, so many mistakes from them. I thought they’d have far more creativity for a team rising high. I thought they were pretty average as a team
